About the Role
Sawari Hospitality Solutions is seeking a reliable, hardworking and self-driven Kitchen Steward to join its team. Successful candidates will receive basic training to prepare them for contract assignments in restaurants, hotels and catering establishments across Nairobi.
The ideal candidate should be well organized, communicate effectively, work independently with limited supervision and contribute positively as part of a team. Stewards who consistently demonstrate excellent performance may be considered for career development opportunities in their preferred areas of hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
Keep the kitchen clean, orderly and properly maintained throughout the working day.
Ensure kitchen floors remain clean and free from standing water.
Follow all required hygiene, sanitation and workplace safety procedures.
Handle and dispose of waste according to applicable hotel and regulatory requirements, including recycling procedures.
Perform routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, washing surfaces, emptying bins and placing waste in designated containers.
Keep waste disposal and bin storage areas neat and hygienic.
Operate pot-washing and dishwashing equipment safely while maintaining required hygiene standards.
Regularly clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils and small kitchen equipment.
Wash and sanitize dishes, service items and other tableware according to established procedures.
Clean larger kitchen equipment whenever assigned to do so.
Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen and dishwashing-area walls and floors.
Wash, dry, sort, stack and load or unload dishes from the dishwasher.
Properly organize and store cleaned kitchen and service items.
Remove chipped or damaged service items from use and record breakages and inventory changes appropriately.
Follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions when handling and using workplace cleaning chemicals.
Monitor chemical supplies and maintain accurate chemical inventory levels.
Clean and sanitize workstations before closing or completing assigned duties.
Check that kitchen equipment remains clean, functional and properly maintained.
Operate and care for equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and departmental procedures.
Immediately report equipment faults, maintenance requirements or workplace hazards to the Chief Steward or Stewarding Manager.
Support basic food preparation tasks when instructed by the manager or chef.
Assist with serving food and beverages to guests in the dining area when required.
Requirements
At least one year of experience working as a Kitchen Steward.
High school education or a certificate in food preparation, nutrition, sanitation, food safety or a related area.
Knowledge of operating commercial or industrial dishwashing equipment is an added advantage.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving abilities.
Willingness to work during busy hospitality periods, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
Good spoken and written communication skills.
Demonstrated integrity, reliability and a strong work ethic.
Ability to work independently while also supporting a collaborative, high-performance team environment.

Sawari Hospitality Solutions is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join a culinary team operating within a luxury five-star hotel setting.
The successful candidate should have a solid understanding of both theoretical and practical kitchen operations, a genuine interest in professional cooking and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards while creating enjoyable dining experiences for guests.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation
Support senior chefs with the preparation of quality dishes according to established kitchen standards.
Follow approved recipes, portion requirements and plating guidelines to ensure consistency in every service.
Inventory and Storage
Receive food supplies and inspect ingredients for freshness, quality and suitability.
Help arrange and store ingredients correctly while observing food safety and health requirements.
Cooking and Kitchen Skills
Build practical knowledge of different cooking methods and culinary techniques.
Learn to safely and effectively use a variety of kitchen tools and equipment.
Teamwork and Service Preparation
Coordinate with different kitchen sections and maintain clear communication to support efficient service.
Take responsibility for an assigned workstation and ensure required ingredients and components are prepared before service begins.
Quality Assurance
Help maintain expected standards for food taste, quality and presentation.
Prepare food in line with recipes and cooking methods provided by the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs.
Take part in kitchen training sessions, food tastings and performance assessments to improve culinary skills.
Hygiene and Sanitation
Maintain proper personal hygiene and follow all food sanitation requirements, including regular handwashing and use of appropriate protective clothing.
Assist in keeping kitchen areas, work surfaces, utensils and equipment clean and hygienic.
Menu Support
Assist chefs with testing, preparing and introducing new dishes and menu items.
Offer creative suggestions that may help improve dishes and enhance the guest dining experience.
Adaptability and Development
Remain flexible when kitchen duties, procedures or working conditions change.
Accept guidance and constructive feedback professionally and use it to improve performance.
Show enthusiasm for continuous learning and progression within the culinary profession.
Requirements
Previous experience as a Commis Chef in a luxury hotel, upscale hospitality establishment or fine-dining restaurant is an advantage.
A culinary diploma, degree or equivalent professional culinary training.
Good understanding of cooking techniques, food handling, hygiene and sanitation requirements.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes and preparation instructions accurately.
Physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting items weighing up to 25 kg.
Ability to perform effectively in a demanding, fast-moving kitchen environment.
Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays according to operational requirements.
