Exam Coordinator - Information Communication Technology
Tutorial Fellow - International Relations
Zetech University has two full-time opportunities in Nairobi for professionals interested in working in higher education. The positions are an Exam Coordinator – Information Communication Technology and a Tutorial Fellow – International Relations.
Although both jobs are based within the university environment, they involve very different responsibilities. The Exam Coordinator will focus on the organisation, administration and quality control of examinations within the ICT department, while the Tutorial Fellow will combine university teaching with research, curriculum development and student mentorship.
Exam Coordinator – Information Communication Technology
The Exam Coordinator position is focused on making sure examination activities within the Information Communication Technology department are organised properly and completed according to university requirements.
The person taking up this role will support the Head of Department with examination operations while also maintaining professional engagement with students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders.
A large part of the work happens before students sit for their examinations. Lecturers need to submit examination drafts within the required timelines, and the coordinator will follow up to ensure that this happens.
The submitted papers must then go through internal and external moderation. Where moderators recommend changes, the coordinator will need to make sure those corrections are implemented before the examination papers are finalised.
Preparing and Managing Examination Papers
The position involves overseeing several stages of examination preparation, including setting, proofreading and finalising examination papers.
Once papers are ready, they need to be handled securely. The coordinator will oversee their printing and distribution while ensuring that the required procedures are followed.
Examination schedules are another important responsibility. The coordinator will prepare departmental examination and invigilation schedules so that the different activities can take place in an organised manner.
When examinations are being conducted, the coordinator will oversee the process and ensure that it complies with institutional examination regulations.
This requires close attention to detail because examination administration involves multiple deadlines, people and documents. Problems at one stage can affect the rest of the examination process, making coordination important throughout.
Coursework and Post-Examination Activities
The work does not end once students complete their examination papers.
Completed examination booklets need to be collected and prepared for the marking process. The coordinator will also monitor coursework to ensure it is issued, assessed, marked and submitted within the required timelines.
After marking, examination scripts and results go through further checks. The coordinator will coordinate post-examination moderation of marked scripts and results before the information is presented to the relevant examination boards.
The position therefore covers the examination cycle from the preparation of papers through to the presentation and approval of results.
Accurate record keeping is also required. Examination records must be maintained properly, with the department complying with institutional examination policies and quality assurance standards.
Requirements for the Exam Coordinator Role
Applicants should have a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related area from an accredited university.
At least three years of experience in a similar position at a private university is required.
The university is also looking for someone who demonstrates leadership potential and can work independently. At the same time, the person should be comfortable collaborating with colleagues from different parts of the university.
The combination of organisational ability, communication and attention to detail is important because the position involves working with lecturers, students, examination teams and other university stakeholders.
Tutorial Fellow – International Relations
The second position is for a Tutorial Fellow in International Relations. The role reports to the Head of Department for Hospitality, Tourism and International Relations and combines teaching, academic development, research and student support.
The person appointed will teach subjects assigned by the Head of Department and contribute to the development and delivery of academic programmes.
This can include helping to design and plan programmes of study, including new courses at different levels. The Tutorial Fellow will also be expected to deliver lectures and practical sessions to students.
Teaching is only one part of the position. Course content and learning materials need to be reviewed regularly to ensure they remain appropriate, with updates made where necessary.
Curriculum Development and Academic Collaboration
The Tutorial Fellow will work alongside other academic staff on course development and curriculum changes.
Collaboration is therefore part of the academic work. The person will contribute ideas and participate in activities aimed at improving programmes and developing research within the department.
The role also involves research. The Tutorial Fellow will be expected to carry out research and prepare research grant proposals. There is also an expectation to seek and participate in consultancy opportunities.
Research findings should be shared with the wider academic community. This includes presenting research papers at national or international conferences and other relevant events, as well as disseminating research outputs.
These responsibilities make the position broader than classroom teaching. The successful applicant will be involved in both the academic and research sides of university work.
Supporting Students and Colleagues
Student development is another part of the position.
The Tutorial Fellow will provide mentorship and career guidance to students and staff. This involves supporting learners beyond their regular classroom activities and helping them think about their academic and career development.
The person may also be assigned additional responsibilities by supervisors from time to time or undertake other duties contained in the detailed job description.
Qualifications for the Tutorial Fellow Position
Applicants should hold a Master's Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from a recognised and accredited university in the relevant field.
A Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from a recognised and accredited university is also required.
The position calls for at least three years of post-qualification work experience. Candidates should also demonstrate potential for university teaching and research.
A commitment to high-quality teaching and creating a positive learning environment for students is expected.
Two Different Career Paths in Higher Education
These two Zetech University positions offer different areas of responsibility within the university setting.
The Exam Coordinator role is centred on examination administration, quality assurance, scheduling, records and coordination. It would suit a professional with an ICT-related degree and experience managing examination activities within a private university.
The Tutorial Fellow position is focused on International Relations and Diplomacy, with responsibilities covering teaching, curriculum development, research, academic collaboration and student mentorship.
Both positions require professionals who can work with colleagues and students while maintaining the standards expected within a university environment.
For candidates in Nairobi with the required academic qualifications and experience, these vacancies provide opportunities to contribute to university operations and academic activities in two distinct areas: examination management within ICT and teaching and research within International Relations
