Eligibility Requirements

Applicants interested in the Geology internship must meet the following conditions:

• Be aged between 25 and 35 years.

• Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning and have graduated within the two years preceding the date of the advertisement.

• Must not have previously participated in an internship programme sponsored by the Government of Kenya.

• Must not have been formally employed in their field of specialization after completing their degree.

Internship Duties

The selected intern will be expected to:

• Carry out assignments provided by the designated supervisor or mentor.

• Keep records of the knowledge and skills gained throughout the internship.

• Take part in mentorship sessions and other activities forming part of the programme.

• Fulfil the programme's quarterly monitoring and evaluation requirements.

• Be willing to work at any appropriate office or duty station within institutions implementing the HOAG-W4R project where an internship opportunity is available.

• Follow the policies, procedures and regulations of the public institution to which they are assigned.

• Actively develop practical skills relevant to their area of specialization.

• Protect confidential information and properly safeguard any tools, equipment or other resources entrusted to them.

• Obtain the required clearance from the relevant authority before completing their placement and leaving the assigned station.

Internship Period and Stipend

The internship will run for 12 months and will not be renewed. The second group of 65 interns is scheduled to begin in January 2027, during the third quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with the applicable Government of Kenya public service internship guidelines, including the Guidelines on Management of the Public Service Internship Programme October 2019, the Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service May 2016, and any subsequent government policies, circulars or directives.

Those who successfully complete the internship will receive certificates.

Termination of Internship

An internship placement may be ended if the intern:

• Engages in gross misconduct or disorderly behaviour.

• Records unsatisfactory performance.

• Commits a criminal offence.

Ending the Internship by the Intern

An intern wishing to leave before the agreed completion date may do so by:

• Providing one month's notice or submitting a written resignation/termination letter to the Head of the Public Institution through the assigned supervisor.

• Providing two weeks' notice before the agreed internship period expires.

Intern – Hydrogeology

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the Hydrogeology internship should:

• Be between 25 and 35 years of age.

• Possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree obtained from a recognized institution of higher education and have graduated no more than two years before the date of the advertisement.

• Not have previously benefited from an internship programme financed by the Government of Kenya.

• Not have secured formal employment in their area of specialization after graduation.

Responsibilities

The intern will:

• Undertake duties assigned by the supervisor or mentor.

• Maintain documentation of skills and experience gained during the placement.

• Participate in mentorship programmes and other activities associated with the internship.

• Comply with quarterly monitoring and evaluation requirements.

• Remain available for deployment to an appropriate office or workstation within institutions participating in the HOAG-W4R project where internship positions are available.

• Observe the rules and operating procedures of the public institution where they are posted.

• Work toward developing practical competencies in their area of specialization.

• Maintain confidentiality and take proper care of all tools and equipment placed under their responsibility.

• Complete the necessary clearance process before departing the internship station.

Duration and Stipend

The placement will run for 12 months on a non-renewable basis. The second cohort of 65 interns is expected to commence in January 2027, during the third quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year.

A monthly stipend will be provided in accordance with the prevailing Government of Kenya internship policies, guidelines and circulars, including the Guidelines on Management of the Public Service Internship Programme October 2019 and the Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service May 2016.

Interns who complete the programme successfully will be issued with certificates.

Discontinuation

The internship may be discontinued where an intern is found guilty of:

• Gross or disorderly conduct.

• Poor or unsatisfactory performance.

• A criminal offence.

Voluntary Termination

An intern may end the placement by giving one month's notice or submitting a written resignation/termination letter to the Head of the Public Institution through the supervisor. Alternatively, two weeks' notice may be provided before the agreed internship period ends.

General Internship Responsibilities

Interns selected for the programme will be expected to:

• Complete duties assigned by their supervisors or mentors.

• Record and document the skills acquired throughout the internship.

• Participate in mentorship sessions and other programme-related activities.

• Meet quarterly monitoring and evaluation requirements.

• Be prepared to serve at any suitable office or workstation within institutions implementing the HOAG-W4R project where an internship vacancy exists.

• Follow all applicable rules and regulations of their assigned public institution.

• Develop practical skills and knowledge relevant to their academic specialization.

• Maintain confidentiality and protect all equipment, tools and information entrusted to them.

• Complete the required clearance process before leaving their assigned internship station.

A two-week notice may also be given before the scheduled end of the internship period.

Please NOTE: Once selected, candidates will be required to submit proof of a valid Personal Accident Insurance Cover for the internship period, Certificate of Good Conduct, Copies of KRA PIN Certificate, and Bank Account Details.
Deadline for applications
The interested persons should submit their applications on or before 18th September, 2026. Selection will be based on merits and performance of candidate in the interview.
