Role Purpose

The New Business Development Intern will support Save the Children’s East and Southern Africa Regional and Multi-Country Programmes. The intern will assist the Resource Mobilisation and New Business Development team with funding research, opportunity tracking, proposal development and related business development activities.

The position reports to the Head of Programme Development, with a matrix reporting line to the Head of RMCP.

The role will mainly support New Business Development activities across the East and Southern Africa region, covering Kenya, Madagascar, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi and Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

Funding Opportunity Tracking and Research

• Assist in researching potential funding opportunities from institutional donors, regional corporates and other non-traditional funding sources.

• Gather relevant funding intelligence through funding platforms, sector publications and other appropriate sources in line with the RMCP strategy.

• Develop a structured approach for sharing funding information with the Head of RMCP for follow-up and action.

• Maintain a calendar of upcoming funding opportunities.

Knowledge Management

• Support knowledge management activities for the RMCP business development function.

• Maintain files, information and data on SharePoint and other Save the Children platforms.

• Ensure relevant information is organised and accessible to members of the team.

Concept Notes and Communication Materials

• Assist the RMCP team in preparing concept notes, technical thematic briefs, communication materials, packages and other documents used for engagement with members and donors.

• Support the review, proofreading, packaging and dissemination of these materials under the guidance of the Head of RMCP.

Proposal Development Support

• Support the coordination and management of regional and multi-country funding opportunities and proposal development processes.

• Assist the Head of RMCP in analysing funding opportunities and organising regional or multi-country proposal kick-off meetings.

• Follow up with proposal team members to support attendance at meetings and timely completion of agreed action points.

• Assist proposal leads with the non-technical sections of funding proposals when required.

• Support the production of high-quality funding applications within required timelines.

• Help organise and facilitate After Action Review meetings following key proposal development processes.

Pipeline and Portfolio Analysis

• Support the analysis of regional funding pipelines and strategic portfolios.

• Assist the Head of RMCP in reviewing monthly and quarterly portfolio reports by donor and sector.

• Help identify and document trends and factors that may affect the success rate of the RMCP portfolio.

Other Duties

Role Purpose

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in implementing quality Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programmes in communities targeted by Save the Children across Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River.

The role will support WASH construction, hygiene promotion, distribution of non-food items (NFIs) and WASH’em services. The position is particularly focused on emergency WASH response and the integration of WASH activities with other sectors, including nutrition, food security, health, education and child protection.

Reports to: WASH Officer

Role Areas

The position covers water supply, water storage and sanitation, hygiene promotion, construction, capacity building, NFI distribution and distribution of water treatment chemicals.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Design and Implementation

• Support the WASH Officer in following up and evaluating WASH infrastructure construction activities.

• Assist in supervising the construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities, including animal troughs, tank platforms, elevated tower tanks, reticulation systems and borehole equipping and solarisation.

• Participate in project site meetings with contractors and community representatives and provide feedback on project progress.

• Help plan, organise and follow up on community hygiene promotion activities.

• Support the distribution of WASH NFIs to target communities, including jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR and Aquatabs.

• Assist with maintaining WASH programme documentation.
