The UNEP Mercury Consultant – Oral Health Expert will support the development of MSPs focused on accelerating the phase-out of dental amalgam through legislation, enforcement, health insurance and education initiatives. The role will also contribute to strengthening national capacity for the environmentally sound management of chemicals and waste within oral healthcare systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design the project, including its components, outcomes, outputs and activities, together with the related problem tree, solution tree and Theory of Change (ToC).
Prepare a project results framework with suitable indicators and targets, following guidance provided by UNEP.
Develop the detailed project budget using the template provided by UNEP.
Prepare a gender mainstreaming action plan.
Develop a stakeholder engagement plan with support from another expert to be recruited by UNEP.
Prepare a project communication strategy.
Develop a risk mitigation plan.
Prepare a workplan covering the full project implementation period.
Develop Terms of Reference (TORs) for key project personnel.
Qualifications and Experience
An advanced university degree in dentistry, public health or a related discipline is required. Relevant fields may include international relations, law, political or social sciences, environmental studies, environmental engineering, industrial engineering or chemical engineering.
A first-level university degree together with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of an advanced university degree.
At least five years of experience in project management, including project preparation, at the international level is required.
Experience working with donor-funded projects, including their development and supervision, is required.
Experience implementing GEF and/or UNEP environmental or industry-related programmes, projects or activities is desirable.
