About the Project
The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) is implementing a three-year project focused on producing policy-relevant evidence on how governments, private sector organisations, civil society and communities can improve economic integration for migrant and displaced young people across East and West Africa.
The initiative brings together mixed-methods research, policy engagement, capacity development and regional knowledge-sharing activities.
Role Overview
AFIDEP is looking for an experienced research and policy professional to take charge of the daily technical coordination and implementation of the Inclusive Economic Integration for Migrant and Displaced African Youth project.
The Project Manager will oversee research activities, coordinate country teams and partners, contribute to policy engagement, supervise project deliverables and ensure that approved work plans, activities and milestones are achieved on schedule.
The position requires a strong combination of applied research expertise, project management experience and the ability to translate evidence into policy.
Key Responsibilities
Applied Research Management
Coordinate the preparation of research protocols, questionnaires, qualitative research tools, sampling approaches and analytical frameworks.
Lead or contribute to mixed-methods research, including data collection, analysis and synthesis with the technical team.
Oversee fieldwork planning, enumerator preparation, data-quality processes and research documentation.
Ensure all research activities comply with approved ethical, safeguarding and data-protection requirements.
Prepare and coordinate technical reports, country-level analyses, comparative research outputs and academic manuscripts.
Project Coordination
Manage the routine implementation of the approved project work plan and delivery schedule.
Prepare detailed activity schedules, progress trackers and contributions to annual work plans and budgets.
Coordinate project staff, consultants, partners and country-based collaborators.
Track implementation progress, potential risks and dependencies, escalating significant issues to project leadership.
Arrange project management, technical and partner meetings and maintain records of agreed actions and follow-up items.
Policy Engagement and Evidence Uptake
Help implement the project's policy engagement and evidence utilisation strategy.
Prepare stakeholder maps, policy briefs, presentations and other policy-facing materials.
Coordinate stakeholder consultations, validation sessions, policy discussions and regional learning events.
Develop and maintain working relationships with government officials, youth organisations, implementing partners and other relevant stakeholders.
Monitor how project evidence is being used, including policy influence, stakeholder commitments and subsequent actions.
Monitoring, Learning and Reporting
Maintain accurate monitoring information and coordinate regular reporting against project indicators, milestones and deliverables.
Prepare quarterly, annual and donor narrative reports for review and approval.
Support learning reviews, outcome harvesting and adaptive management activities.
Record lessons, challenges, decisions and corrective measures arising during implementation.
Gather and coordinate reporting contributions from project staff and partners to ensure submissions are complete and delivered on time.
Knowledge Products and Communications
Develop policy briefs, research summaries, practice documents, presentations and other knowledge materials.
Work with AFIDEP's communications team to present research findings effectively to policy audiences and the wider public.
Represent the project at selected technical meetings, conferences and other forums when delegated.
Support publication schedules, peer-review processes and dissemination of research outputs.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
A PhD in Migration Studies, Development Studies, Public Policy, Demography, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, International Development, Population Studies, Labour Economics or a closely related social science field.
Formal training or demonstrated expertise in quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods research.
At least five years of relevant professional experience after completing a PhD, or equivalent progressively senior experience in applied research, policy analysis or research programme implementation.
Proven experience managing or coordinating a significant research or policy project, preferably one involving several partners or countries.
Experience in a relevant area such as migration and displacement, refugee inclusion, labour mobility, youth employment, livelihoods, economic inclusion, human capital development or public policy.
Practical experience designing research protocols and tools, organising data collection, analysing findings and producing quality reports.
Experience working with government technical personnel, civil society organisations, development agencies, research institutions or regional stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to convert research findings into policy briefs, recommendations, presentations and stakeholder engagement materials.
Experience supporting donor-funded projects through work planning, budgeting, monitoring and narrative reporting.
Relevant peer-reviewed publications, technical reports or policy outputs.
Desirable Qualifications
Direct experience researching or implementing programmes involving migration governance, forced displacement, refugee policy or labour mobility in Africa.
Experience working across multiple African countries or engaging with regional policy bodies.
Working knowledge of French or another language relevant to the project's operating environments.
Experience in evidence uptake, outcome harvesting or tracking policy influence.

Role Overview
AFIDEP is seeking an experienced Communications and Policy Engagement Officer to help develop and execute the Institute's communications, branding and policy engagement initiatives.
The position will support AFIDEP's efforts to strengthen its visibility, reputation and influence as a regional research and policy organisation. The successful candidate will also help ensure that research evidence is effectively communicated and applied to development policy and practice across Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Content and Publications
Coordinate and produce content for institutional publications, including annual reports, newsletters and African Development Perspectives.
Develop and manage content for the AFIDEP website and social media channels.
Help researchers transform technical evidence into accessible materials for policymakers and wider audiences, including policy briefs, infographics, factsheets, scripts, blogs, media releases, media kits, opinion articles, explainer videos, podcasts and photo stories.
Research and Policy Communications
Develop communications materials that present AFIDEP's research, technical work and policy positions in clear and accessible formats for different audiences.
Support communication around policy dialogues, consultations and related engagements.
Prepare event communication materials, document important messages and produce follow-up content after events.
Provide communications contributions to institutional, programme and donor reports, including success stories, visibility activities, media coverage and key achievements.
Media and Public Engagement
Develop and maintain professional relationships with journalists and media organisations to increase coverage of AFIDEP's work.
Contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening the communication and evidence-informed decision-making skills of researchers, staff, policymakers and journalists.
Digital and Social Media
Support the management of AFIDEP's Facebook, X, LinkedIn and YouTube platforms.
Ensure regular publication of relevant, accurate and engaging content across social channels.
Monitor emerging digital platforms, content formats and communication tools that could expand the reach and impact of AFIDEP's work.
Assist in maintaining the AFIDEP website and keeping programme-related information accurate, current and well presented.
Create and update website content as required.
Knowledge and Information Resources
Assist with the development, organisation and maintenance of AFIDEP's physical and digital library and information resources.
Events Management
Plan, coordinate and deliver meetings, conferences and other events, including logistics, stakeholder coordination and on-site execution.
Qualifications and Experience
Master's degree in Communications, Media, International Relations or a related discipline.
At least five years of professional experience in science, research or development communications.

About the Role
AFIDEP is recruiting a capable and experienced Resource Mobilisation Officer to join its Business Development Unit.
The unit is responsible for implementing the Institute's resource mobilisation strategy by identifying funding opportunities, engaging donors, developing partnerships and strengthening AFIDEP's position to attract sustainable and diverse sources of funding.
Working closely with the Business Development team as well as technical and support departments, the Resource Mobilisation Officer will help coordinate institutional fundraising activities. The role will cover partnership opportunity mapping, funder engagement, proposal development, process improvement, monitoring and reporting, as well as activities that strengthen the Institute's profile and brand.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Opportunity Identification
Support implementation of the Business Development Department's work plan and strategic priorities.
Research prospective donors and funding partners and keep historical opportunity records updated within the Microsoft Fundraising and Engagement system and other relevant tools.
Monitor funding opportunities, calls for proposals and requests for concept notes, preparing concise summaries to support timely decision-making.
Partnership and Donor Engagement
Help establish and maintain productive relationships with research institutions, universities, government bodies, media organisations, civil society groups and other partners.
Support collaboration with partners to strengthen proposal development, project implementation and AFIDEP's institutional profile.
Assist with communications and engagement involving prospective funders and strategic partners.
Complete partnership assessment and due-diligence documentation as required.
Proposal Development
Contribute to proposal preparation through background research, collection of organisational and project information and adaptation of staff biographies and CVs to meet specific funding opportunities.
Assist with registering AFIDEP on funder and partner online submission systems and platforms.
Events, Monitoring and Reporting
Help organise and participate in donor meetings, partnership engagements, events and other activities supporting resource mobilisation.
Assist in tracking the Business Development Department's performance, impact and results and contribute to reporting processes.
Undertake additional assignments and duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Master's degree in international development, social sciences, humanities, communications, business development or another relevant discipline.
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in resource mobilisation, business development, proposal writing, grants management, donor reporting, strategic communications or a related area.
Experience within an international development or research institution is preferred.
Good understanding of the funding rules, compliance expectations and priorities of major bilateral and multilateral donors, research funders, foundations and philanthropic organisations.
Strong research and analytical capabilities, including the ability to locate, assess, synthesise and present complex information in proposals, concept notes, donor reports and other fundraising materials.
Demonstrated ability to organise and coordinate strategic events, stakeholder engagements, donor meetings or similar institutional positioning activities.
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly, convincingly and appropriately for different audiences.
