Data Engineer: Analytics
IT Project Manager
Regional Legal Counsel
Application Security Engineer
Data Engineer: Analytics
Job Type: Full Time
Qualification: BA/BSc/HND, Professional Certificate
Experience: 3 years
Location: Nairobi
Job Field: Data, Business Analysis and AI; ICT / Computer
About the Role
We are looking for a Data Engineer to build the data models and analytics infrastructure that support client reporting. The role requires someone who can work effectively with imperfect source data and incomplete requirements, while taking responsibility for turning raw information into reliable, useful insights for clients.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the data ingestion, transformation, and modelling layers that underpin client reporting.
Take ownership of data models from start to finish, including defining grain, keys, relationships, historical data handling, and testing, while documenting the decisions made.
Investigate, clean, validate, and reconcile source data before it enters the reporting environment.
Develop analytics solutions that address client business questions and interpret the findings in a meaningful business context.
Present technical designs, findings, and recommendations directly to clients, including stakeholders without technical backgrounds.
Contribute to defining and scoping potential projects during the pre-sales process.
Communicate ideas and findings effectively through strong presentation skills.
Demonstrate initiative, motivation, and a clear focus on customer needs.
Requirements
At least 3 years of professional experience developing and maintaining production data pipelines used by other teams.
University coursework, academic projects, and personal projects will not be considered as part of the required experience.
Must hold a current cloud certification specifically within data, analytics, or machine learning.
Certifications outside these areas do not meet the certification requirement.
Snowflake SnowPro Core certification, hands-on production experience with Snowflake, and experience deploying machine learning solutions into production are advantageous.
Advanced SQL capabilities, including window functions, CTEs, set-based logic, aggregation at the appropriate data grain, query-plan analysis, and performance troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of relational databases and data modelling, including normalization, grain, key relationships, slowly changing dimensions, and deciding when denormalization is appropriate.
Production experience with dbt, including incremental models, snapshots, testing, and designing project structures.
Strong Python skills for data analysis, automation, and extracting information from databases, APIs, and files, including scraping when no direct interface exists.
Ability to approach data quality as an ongoing engineering responsibility by profiling sources, reconciling information against systems of record, and maintaining data standards as sources evolve.
Strong quantitative and logical reasoning skills, including sufficient statistical knowledge to validate findings and defend technical decisions.
Ability to communicate data through clear visualizations, written insights, and practical recommendations that non-technical stakeholders can understand and use.
Where AI tools are incorporated into your workflow, you must be able to understand, explain, and justify the output you provide. AI should support your work rather than replace your technical understanding.
What to Include in Your CV
Clearly identify the databases, platforms, and tools you personally used, the volume or scale of data involved, and your individual contribution.
Describe at least one data model you personally designed, including its grain, the reason for choosing that grain, and what you intentionally left out.
Provide an example of dealing with incomplete, duplicated, or inconsistent source information and explain how you made the data reliable for reporting.
Highlight analytics or reporting solutions you delivered, the business question they addressed, and how the organization used the results.
Describe the most challenging query or data-performance issue you have resolved rather than simply listing a proficiency level.
List your certifications, including the awarding organization and whether each certification is currently valid.
What We Offer
Exposure to leading global OEMs and their technologies.
Continued professional development with support and funding for relevant certifications.
Opportunities for career advancement within a rapidly growing technology consulting organization.
