GRADUATE ASSISTANT – MARITIME & SEAFARING STUDIES
Qualifications
The position of Graduate Assistant – Maritime & Seafaring Studies is intended for a Kenyan citizen who meets the specified academic, professional, and age requirements.
The applicant must hold at least an Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor of Technology degree in Marine Engineering from an accredited and recognised university in the relevant field.
The candidate must demonstrate the potential, willingness, and commitment to pursue a relevant Master’s degree.
The applicant must have registered for a Master’s degree in order to qualify for further renewal of the Graduate Assistant appointment.
Where applicable, the candidate must be registered with, or be eligible for registration with, the relevant professional and/or regulatory body.
The Graduate Assistant position will initially be offered on a one-year contract. The contract may normally be renewed for a period not exceeding three years, allowing the successful candidate to complete the relevant Master’s degree programme.
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens and must be below 30 years of age.
Key Responsibilities
The Graduate Assistant will support senior academic staff members in carrying out assignments allocated by the COD.
The position will also involve undertaking other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
GRADUATE ASSISTANT – ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY (CIVIL)
Qualifications
Applicants for the Graduate Assistant – Engineering & Technology (Civil) position must meet the required academic, professional, contractual, and eligibility conditions.
The candidate must possess at least an Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Building & Civil Engineering from an accredited and recognised university in the relevant field.
The applicant must demonstrate the potential and willingness to undertake a relevant Master’s degree.
The candidate must have registered for a Master’s degree to qualify for further renewal of the Graduate Assistant appointment.
Where applicable, the applicant must be registered with, or be registerable with, the relevant professional and/or regulatory body.
The Graduate Assistant will be appointed on a one-year contract. The appointment may normally be renewed for a period not exceeding three years to provide sufficient time for the candidate to complete the Master’s degree programme.
The applicant must be a Kenyan citizen and must be under 30 years of age.

The candidate must be registered or registerable with the relevant professional and/or regulatory body where applicable.
The successful candidate will be employed on a one-year contract. The contract may normally be renewed for a period not exceeding three years to allow completion of the relevant Master’s degree programme.
The candidate must be a Kenyan citizen and must be under the age of 30 years.

GRADUATE ASSISTANT – COMPUTING & INFORMATICS
Qualifications
The Graduate Assistant – Computing & Informatics position is open to candidates who meet the required academic, professional, age, and contractual conditions.
Applicants must have at least an Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from an accredited and recognised university in the relevant field.
Candidates must demonstrate the potential and willingness to pursue a relevant Master’s degree.
Applicants must have registered for a Master’s degree in order to qualify for further renewal of the Graduate Assistant appointment.
Candidates must be registered or registerable with the relevant professional and/or regulatory body where applicable.

General Position Conditions
Across the Graduate Assistant positions in Maritime & Seafaring Studies, Engineering & Technology, and Computing & Informatics, candidates are expected to meet the specified academic standards for their respective disciplines.
The required qualification for each position must be obtained from an accredited and recognised university and must correspond to the relevant area of appointment. Candidates are also expected to demonstrate the potential and willingness to continue their academic development through a relevant Master’s degree programme.
Registration for a Master’s degree is required for further renewal of the appointment. The Graduate Assistant engagement is initially for one year and may normally be renewed for a maximum period of three years to facilitate completion of the Master’s degree programme.
Where professional or regulatory registration applies to the relevant discipline, candidates must either already be registered or be eligible for registration with the appropriate professional and/or regulatory body.
All applicants must meet the stated citizenship and age requirement. Candidates must be Kenyan citizens and must be below 30 years of age.
The principal responsibility of the Graduate Assistant across all the listed positions is to provide support to senior academic staff members in assignments allocated by the COD. In addition, Graduate Assistants may be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities assigned to them from time to time.
The specific academic qualification required depends on the area of appointment. Marine Engineering candidates require a Bachelor of Technology degree in Marine Engineering, Civil candidates require a Bachelor of Science degree in Building & Civil Engineering, Mechanical candidates require a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical candidates require a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, while Computing & Informatics candidates require a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
Each position therefore requires candidates to demonstrate the appropriate academic background while meeting the common requirements relating to Master’s degree progression, professional registration where applicable, contract renewal, citizenship, and age.
