Position Summary
The Grants Finance Officer is responsible for overseeing the financial management, compliance, and reporting of donor-funded projects. The role ensures that grant resources are managed efficiently, financial records are accurate, and reporting obligations are met in accordance with donor agreements, organizational policies, and statutory requirements. Working closely with programme teams, finance leadership, donors, and implementing partners, the successful candidate will support sound financial stewardship, effective sub-grantee management, and compliance throughout the grant lifecycle. Occasional travel may be be required to support financial reviews, partner monitoring, and donor-related activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
A professional accounting qualification, or active progress toward one, such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CA(SA), or an equivalent certification, will be considered an added advantage.
Between five and eight years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial management, including substantial involvement in donor-funded programmes.
Demonstrated experience managing grants funded by international development organizations or philanthropic institutions such as the Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, FCDO, Gavi, or similar funding agencies.
Practical experience overseeing the financial management of sub-grantees, implementing partners, or other downstream funding recipients.
Strong understanding of grant compliance requirements, donor reporting, budgeting, financial monitoring, and cost allocation principles.
Experience supporting internal and external audits and implementing recommendations arising from audit findings.
Proficiency in accounting software, together with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
