Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor internal financial control systems to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
Lead the budgeting process, including budget preparation, monitoring, variance analysis, and reporting to support effective financial planning and decision-making.
Coordinate both internal and external audit activities, regulatory reviews, due diligence exercises, and ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations and corrective actions.
Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts and alternative transaction channels, including mobile money platforms, agency banking networks, and other payment systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Ensure all financial reports are prepared accurately, reviewed thoroughly, and submitted within established deadlines.
Coordinate the preparation and submission of regulatory returns and financial reports to the Central Bank of Kenya and other relevant stakeholders in compliance with applicable regulations and prudential requirements.
Serve as Secretary to the Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO), supporting committee activities, documentation, and reporting requirements.
Manage tax planning, compliance, reporting, and statutory obligations to ensure adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations.
Oversee financial reporting obligations to strategic partners and ensure contractual reporting requirements are met consistently.
Maintain and oversee financial reporting systems to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, accuracy, and availability of financial information.
Manage treasury operations, including liquidity planning, cash flow forecasting, and the strategic placement of surplus funds to maximize returns while supporting operational needs.
Provide leadership, guidance, and performance management to accountants and finance support staff.
Undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of Finance in support of departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized and accredited institution.
Professional qualification such as CPA (K), ACCA, CFA, or an equivalent accounting or finance certification is mandatory.
Valid membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
A Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline will be considered an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies
A minimum of seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or financial management roles.
At least three to five years of experience in a supervisory or management position with responsibility for leading finance teams.
Previous experience within the banking, microfinance, SACCO, or broader financial services sector, preferably spanning two to three years or more.
Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Accounting Standards (IAS), taxation regulations, and financial compliance requirements.
Demonstrated leadership capability with strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and report-writing abilities.
High standards of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct in professional practice.
