Accountant – Finance & Accounts
Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-focused Accountant to join the Finance & Accounts team. The successful candidate will support the organization in maintaining accurate financial records, managing budgets and cash flow, monitoring revenue, and strengthening financial accountability across different departments.
The role involves working closely with departmental heads to review financial performance, control expenditure, resolve financial variances, and support effective decision-making through accurate financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Budgeting and Financial Planning
Prepare, review, and monitor departmental and organizational budgets.
Track budget performance and identify significant variations.
Support departmental heads in understanding budgets and applying appropriate cost-control measures.
Provide financial guidance to departments to promote responsible use of organizational resources.
Cash Flow Management
Prepare and regularly update cash-flow projections.
Monitor cash availability to ensure sufficient funds are available for day-to-day operations.
Identify potential cash-flow challenges and communicate them appropriately.
Support effective planning and utilization of available financial resources.
Revenue and Financial Accountability
Monitor revenue performance across departments and different revenue streams.
Review revenue records and ensure proper accountability.
Identify discrepancies and follow up on outstanding issues.
Work with relevant departments to strengthen financial controls and accountability.
Financial Reconciliations
Conduct bank reconciliations and other financial reconciliations.
Reconcile revenue, debtor, creditor, and related financial accounts.
Investigate discrepancies and ensure variances are resolved promptly.
Maintain accurate financial records to support reliable reporting.
Financial Performance Analysis
Review departmental financial performance against approved budgets.
Identify significant budget variances and provide clear explanations.
Work closely with Heads of Departments to analyze financial performance.
Provide financial information and guidance to support departmental decision-making.
Cost Control and Resource Management
Monitor organizational and departmental expenditure.
Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs and improve efficiency.
Support departments in implementing appropriate cost-control measures.
Promote efficient utilization of financial resources.
Financial Reporting
Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
Support the preparation of regular financial reports.
Ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and available within the required timelines.
Provide relevant financial analysis to assist management in monitoring performance.
Audit, Statutory and Compliance Support
Support statutory reporting and compliance requirements.
Assist with internal and external audit processes.
Provide required financial records and supporting documentation during audits.
Help ensure accounting activities comply with applicable financial policies and controls.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Experience using accounting or ERP systems.
Strong analytical, organizational, and financial management skills.
