Finance and Accounting Manager

Job Type: Full Time
Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Position Overview

The Finance and Accounting Manager will oversee the company’s financial operations, cash flow, statutory compliance, accounting controls, process improvements and finance team. The role will ensure accurate financial records, effective use of resources, compliance with Kenyan tax and accounting requirements, and efficient finance processes.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Flow and Working Capital Management

• Plan and manage cash flow to ensure expenses are paid on time and remain within approved budgets.

• Oversee receivables, payables and inventory controls through the Odoo system.

• Ensure proper financial reconciliations are completed and maintained.

• Monitor cost allocation and ensure it remains accurate and aligned with approved budgets.

• Work towards maintaining 100% accuracy in cost allocation.

Taxation and Statutory Compliance

• Oversee the company’s tax obligations in Kenya.

• Ensure tax returns are prepared and submitted within the timelines set by the KRA calendar.

• Coordinate tax audits, assessments and correspondence with the Kenya Revenue Authority.

• Monitor changes in tax legislation and ensure the company responds appropriately.

• Maintain complete and accurate tax records and supporting documentation.

Accounting Operations and Controls

• Manage daily accounting activities in accordance with IFRS and company policies.

• Lead the statutory audit process and coordinate with external auditors.

• Monitor compliance with accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

• Help safeguard company assets through effective financial controls.

• Oversee inventory management and support monthly stock-taking activities.

• Work to keep inventory write-offs below KES 0.5 million per month.

• Ensure processes are maintained without material audit issues arising from financial and accounting operations.

Process Improvement

• Maintain the integrity and reliability of financial information within the Odoo system.

• Ensure data integrity and appropriate system controls are maintained.

• Lead automation and process-efficiency initiatives across finance operations.

• Work towards a gradual 10% reduction in processing time or transactions through improved systems and processes.

• Document finance processes and procedures to support effective training and knowledge transfer.

Team Management

• Lead, coach and mentor the finance team.

• Ensure team members receive appropriate training to keep their skills and knowledge current.

• Ensure every position has an updated Job Description (JD), Competency Framework (CF) and development plan.

• Conduct and support regular performance reviews.

• Promote effective teamwork and accountability within the finance function.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

• CPA-K qualification or an equivalent professional qualification in Finance or Accounting.

• Experience working with ERP systems; experience with Odoo is an added advantage.

• At least 4 years of experience in a finance and accounting department.

• Demonstrated experience in ledger and cash flow management.

• Proven leadership and team management experience, including working with multicultural teams.

• Previous multinational work experience.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strong focus on compliance and attention to detail.

• Good numerical and data analysis abilities.

• Honest, empathetic, energetic and solution-oriented.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and a practical, hands-on approach to work.

• Demonstrated desire to create a positive environmental impact.

Other Details

• This is a full-time position based in Nairobi, Kenya.

• The successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.

• The position reports to the Financial Controller.

• The role manages the Accountant and Senior Accountant.
