Position Overview
TendePay Limited is an innovative and rapidly expanding Payments Service Provider dedicated to helping businesses across Africa streamline and automate their financial processes, from payment collections and disbursements to reconciliation and financial management.
We are seeking a Treasury Accountant to play a critical role in safeguarding customer funds and supporting the company's financial integrity. This position goes beyond traditional accounting responsibilities and serves as a key function in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, strengthening financial controls, and maintaining customer trust.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management and protection of client funds, ensuring full adherence to the Central Bank of Kenya's regulatory framework governing customer fund safeguarding. The role will also focus on maintaining the required trust account coverage levels, monitoring liquidity positions, and supporting robust treasury operations.
Working closely with the Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Payments teams, the Treasury Accountant will help design, implement, and enhance processes, controls, and monitoring mechanisms that protect customer assets, mitigate financial risks, and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory obligations. The position requires a proactive professional who can contribute to operational excellence while supporting the organization's continued growth within the digital payments ecosystem.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
Professional accounting qualification such as CPA (K) or ACCA is required; candidates who have reached finalist level will also be considered.
At least three years of practical experience in treasury management, financial reconciliations, finance operations, or related functions within a fintech company, banking institution, mobile money provider, payment service provider, or other regulated financial services environment. This requirement is mandatory.
Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements governing customer funds, electronic money, payment services, and related compliance obligations under the Central Bank of Kenya framework.
Demonstrated experience using accounting platforms, reconciliation systems, and financial management tools. Exposure to process automation, system optimization, or digital transformation initiatives will be considered an added advantage.
Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving capabilities with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet strict deadlines.
Highly proactive and accountable individual with the ability to independently identify issues, take ownership, and drive solutions through to completion.
Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams and external partners.
