Agricultural Traineeship Program – Southern Germany

Eligibility and Academic Requirements

• Must be a Diploma finalist at Bukura Agricultural College (BAC).

• Must have a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60%.

• Applicants must be between 18 and 34 years old.

• Demonstrated interest in agriculture and a strong willingness to gain practical knowledge.

About the Program

This is a 7–9 month practical agricultural traineeship in Southern Germany running from March/May to November. Participants will live and work with a German host family on a private commercial farm, gaining practical experience through hands-on learning.

The traineeship will provide exposure to crop production, livestock management, agricultural machinery and sustainable farming methods. Participants will also take part in an introductory seminar, educational field visits, cultural exchange activities and German language development.

The overall aim is to equip participants with practical skills for efficient farm business management and enable them to serve as agricultural multipliers in Kenya.

What the Program Provides

• Monthly pocket money of €350.

• Certificate of completion after the traineeship.

Key Requirements

• Basic practical knowledge of agriculture, as no initial agricultural training will be provided.

• Willingness to live and participate in the daily life of a host family while adapting to rural German culture.

• Basic knowledge of German; language preparation classes will be arranged by BAC and AKI before departure.

• Ability to ride a bicycle is mandatory.

• A tractor or driving licence will be an added advantage.

• Must demonstrate openness, initiative, responsibility and readiness to undertake physically demanding work over extended working days.

• Commitment to completing the entire traineeship and submitting an experience report, including sections written in German.
