About the Position
NYU Grossman School of Medicine, part of NYU Langone Health, is seeking an Ambulatory Care Nurse to support patient care at the Tisch Center at Essex Crossing. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery, coordination, communication, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practices, clinical procedures, and quality standards.
This position involves providing comprehensive outpatient nursing services, including patient assessment, treatment and medication administration, clinical monitoring, health education, preventive care, triage, and coordination of individualized care plans. The nurse will work closely with licensed providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote positive patient outcomes and maintain high standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct patient examinations, collect medical histories, and document clinical information in the electronic health record.
Provide patients and families with appropriate education and guidance concerning test results, treatment plans, medications, and ongoing care.
Administer medications, vaccinations, IV treatments, oxygen therapy, and other prescribed therapies.
Provide wound care and perform telephone and in-person triage for patients presenting with clinical concerns.
Monitor patients before, during, and after treatments, procedures, medication administration, and anesthesia.
Assess patient information and clinical responses, identify concerns, and determine appropriate nursing interventions within the scope of practice.
Consult with clinical supervisors and licensed providers regarding patient conditions and appropriate treatment plans.
Supervise and delegate duties to LPNs, medical assistants, technicians, and other members of the care team as appropriate.
Support patient safety programs, clinical quality initiatives, and performance improvement activities.
Participate in programs such as MIPS and care-gap management aimed at improving clinical outcomes.
Follow NYU Langone Health standards, nursing policies, regulatory requirements, and applicable external agency guidelines.
Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, social workers, dieticians, navigators, discharge planners, and other healthcare professionals.
Promote a respectful, supportive, and patient-centered healthcare environment.
Provide emergency care in accordance with established organizational procedures.
Serve as a clinical resource for nursing and other healthcare staff.
Participate in evidence-based practice, clinical inquiry, and professional development activities.
Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical responsibilities and patient rights.
Mentor and support peers and colleagues when required.
Patient Assessment and Care Delivery
Gather, document, and maintain complete patient assessment and clinical history information.
Perform point-of-care testing, EKGs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, vision and hearing assessments, risk screenings, fetal monitoring, non-stress testing, spirometry, allergy testing, tuberculosis testing, and evaluation of test results as required.
Carry out nursing treatments and procedures according to provider orders, individualized care plans, organizational policies, and New York State nursing regulations.
Perform procedures such as application or removal of orthopedic devices, casts, and splints, removal of sutures and staples, urinary catheter insertion and care, ear irrigation, bladder irrigation, and hot or cold applications.
Apply and remove dressings and provide appropriate wound care.
Assist healthcare providers with minor and major procedures.
Monitor patients throughout diagnostic testing, procedures, treatments, sedation, and medication administration.
Administer medications through appropriate routes, including oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, intravenous, topical, inhaled, ocular, vaginal, and rectal routes.
Administer oxygen therapy when indicated.
Review medication refill requests, assess relevant clinical information, and prepare refill orders for provider authorization in the electronic medical record.
Provide IV therapy, including fluids, medications, blood and blood products, and chemotherapy when properly certified.
Initiate and discontinue peripheral IV access and maintain peripheral and central venous devices.
Identify and appropriately manage complications associated with IV therapy within the nurse's qualifications and certifications.
Clinical Communication and Message Management
Monitor clinical electronic inboxes and ensure patient encounters are appropriately completed within required timeframes.
Receive, document, and communicate critical laboratory results according to established procedures.
Communicate normal and abnormal test results, follow-up requirements, and provider-directed information to patients.
Conduct an initial review of clinical results to identify urgent findings and notify the appropriate provider for confirmation and further action.
Conduct telephone and face-to-face clinical triage, provide nursing guidance within the RN scope of practice, and escalate concerns when necessary.
Participate in care and case management for assigned patient populations through coordinated multidisciplinary care plans.
Health Promotion and Patient Education
Identify patient, family, and community health concerns through assessment and clinical analysis.
Advocate for appropriate interventions and promote safe care environments.
Continuously gather and evaluate patient health information using appropriate assessment methods.
Analyze clinical findings to establish nursing diagnoses and determine patient health needs.
Report conditions requiring medical diagnosis or treatment to the appropriate provider.
Immediately escalate urgent or emergency findings for appropriate medical intervention.
Establish expected patient outcomes while anticipating potential complications or adverse responses.
Adapt care approaches according to patient age, cultural background, individual needs, and circumstances.
Identify barriers to effective care, including physical, cognitive, language, literacy, socioeconomic, cultural, and behavioral factors.
Assess patient and family learning requirements and maintain appropriate documentation.
Develop individualized, patient-centered care plans in partnership with patients and the healthcare team.
Educate patients and families to support healthy adjustment to changes in health status.
Implement prescribed care interventions and evaluate patient progress toward established outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Registered Professional Nurse license in New York State.
For individuals hired after September 1, 2025, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required.
An Associate Degree in Nursing may be considered with Nursing Leadership approval for candidates who have at least two years of applicable nursing experience and enroll in a bachelor's nursing program that must be completed within two years of hire.
Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Required Credentials
New York State Registered Nurse License.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Membership in relevant professional nursing organizations.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,977.99 to $117,978.00. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and organizational needs. Additional compensation, including bonuses, differentials, incentives, and benefits, is not included in the stated salary range.
