Position Summary
The Part-Time Visual Arts Teacher (working 2–3 days per week) will plan and deliver creative, age-appropriate art lessons for early years and primary students. Reporting to the Head of Teaching and Learning, the teacher will support learners in developing creativity, visual awareness, confidence, practical art skills, and reflective thinking through activities such as drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and design.
This position is well suited for an educator who is comfortable teaching across different age groups, fostering a safe and inspiring studio environment, and working collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate visual arts into wider inquiry-based learning. In addition to regular classroom instruction, the teacher may also provide specialized art coaching and individual lessons beyond core teaching hours.
Required Experience
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Design, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or a closely related discipline.
Formal teaching qualification, training in arts education, or proven experience delivering visual arts instruction to children.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching or facilitating visual arts for early years, primary, or elementary learners.
Strong commitment to safeguarding, child protection, inclusive practice, and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Excellent communication skills in English.
Preferred Experience
Experience working in an international school environment or within IB PYP, inquiry-based learning, Reggio Emilia, or Montessori frameworks.
Familiarity with African, Kenyan, and broader global art traditions and practices.
Experience curating student exhibitions, organizing art showcases, running art clubs, or leading extracurricular arts programs.
Basic skills in digital art, photography, graphic design, or multimedia production.
