Role Summary

The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Internal Auditor to provide independent assurance on the organization's financial integrity, governance practices, and operational effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will strengthen internal controls, support risk management initiatives, ensure compliance with statutory and donor requirements, and contribute to safeguarding the organization's assets and reputation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a risk-based annual internal audit plan aligned with organizational objectives.

• Conduct internal audits to evaluate financial, operational, and compliance processes, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.

• Monitor the implementation of approved audit plans and recommend improvements where necessary.

• Review financial records, accounting processes, and operational activities to verify accuracy, reliability, and compliance with applicable accounting standards, donor requirements, and legal regulations.

• Assess compliance with organizational policies, contractual obligations, and statutory requirements.

• Examine the effectiveness of internal control systems and identify weaknesses or process gaps.

• Recommend practical measures to strengthen governance, improve operational efficiency, and minimize exposure to fraud and financial risks.

• Participate in enterprise risk assessments by identifying potential operational, financial, and compliance risks.

• Support the development and implementation of appropriate risk mitigation strategies and control measures.
