Business Development Officer
Job Description
The Business Development Officer will be responsible for expanding the brokerage’s client base, increasing revenue and meeting established sales objectives. The role will focus on identifying and converting new business opportunities, managing important client relationships and collaborating with insurance providers to offer suitable insurance solutions.
The position will also contribute to the brokerage’s strategic growth by supporting effective partnerships, client acquisition initiatives and sound business practices in line with applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development and Sales
Develop and execute business development plans aimed at achieving agreed sales and revenue goals.
Research the market, identify prospective clients and pursue new business opportunities across relevant market segments.
Generate and qualify leads, meet with prospective clients and build opportunities into sustainable business relationships.
Develop and present professional proposals, presentations and sales pitches tailored to client requirements.
Negotiate appropriate terms with clients and insurers and successfully conclude sales in accordance with company objectives.
Client Relationship Management
Establish and maintain productive relationships with clients, insurers and other important business stakeholders.
Understand client needs and provide guidance on suitable insurance products and solutions.
Promote customer satisfaction, client retention and continued growth of assigned business portfolios.
Respond to client requests and work with internal departments to ensure services are delivered efficiently and on time.
Market Intelligence and Strategy
Carry out market research to identify changing customer needs, industry developments, potential risks and new business opportunities.
Monitor competitor activity and provide useful market insights to support management decision-making.
Contribute ideas for developing and improving insurance products and services based on market conditions and customer requirements.
Reporting and Performance Management
Prepare periodic sales performance reports and provide updates on the business development pipeline.
Monitor progress against assigned targets and recommend or implement appropriate measures where performance falls below expectations.
Keep complete and up-to-date records of client engagements, leads, sales activities and other business development initiatives.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Marketing, Insurance or a related discipline.
A professional qualification in insurance will be an added advantage.
At least three years of experience in business development or sales within an insurance brokerage environment.
Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve or surpass sales targets.
Sound knowledge of insurance products and the operations of an insurance brokerage.
