General Cashier
Job Purpose
The General Cashier oversees the hotel’s day-to-day cash handling activities, including receiving, checking, reconciling, banking, disbursing, and securely storing cash and other financial instruments. The position helps maintain effective financial controls, ensures compliance with established hotel procedures and applicable local requirements, and provides cash-related support to the Front Office and Food & Beverage departments.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the hotel’s daily cash control activities, ensuring cash, cheques, credit card vouchers, remittances, and other collections are properly received, checked, reconciled, and accounted for.
Protect the hotel’s financial resources by maintaining appropriate controls over cash collections, deposits, petty cash, advances, and related transactions.
Prepare and arrange daily bank deposits, ensuring cash and cheque collections are deposited in full and within the required deadlines.
Administer petty cash and staff-related disbursements, confirming that every payment has the required authorization, supporting documentation, and accounting records.
Maintain complete and accurate daily cash records and prepare reports for review by the Income Auditor, Finance Manager, and other relevant personnel.
Take responsibility for the General Cashier’s house bank and ensure it is balanced and reconciled every day.
Participate in internal control activities, including surprise cash counts, investigations, reconciliations, and other reviews when required.
Provide cash support to Front Office and Food & Beverage operations by ensuring sufficient change is available, especially during busy periods, weekends, and public holidays.
Follow hotel financial policies and procedures as well as applicable statutory requirements relating to cash handling and foreign exchange controls.
Safely hold and accurately record unclaimed wages and other funds under the hotel’s custody.
Work closely with operational departments to improve cash-handling practices and provide guidance on matters such as detecting counterfeit currency, checking cheques and credit cards, and maintaining proper cash controls.
Support the development of the Finance team through training, knowledge sharing, inventory exercises, and other cross-functional activities.
Work collaboratively and provide assistance to other Finance & Accounting functions and hotel departments whenever operational requirements call for it.
Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
CPA qualification, with at least Part I completed, or an equivalent accounting qualification is an added advantage.
At least 2–3 years of experience in accounting or cash-handling work, preferably within a hotel or hospitality setting.
Experience working as a General Cashier, Cashier, Accounts Clerk, Income Auditor, or in a similar Finance position is preferred.
Solid knowledge of cash management, reconciliation, banking procedures, petty cash, and financial controls.
Strong numerical and analytical abilities, combined with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with hotel or accounting systems is an advantage.
High standards of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and trustworthiness due to the financial sensitivity of the position.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with Finance, Front Office, and Food & Beverage teams.
Ability to remain accurate and organized while working under pressure and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment.
Flexibility to work according to hotel operational requirements, including weekends and public holidays.
