SUMMARY OF KEY FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The position is responsible for providing strategic, managerial, technical, and advisory leadership across nutrition and health-related programmes. The role requires strong programme development and planning capabilities, effective management and monitoring of programme implementation, and a consistent focus on the quality of results.
The position will also contribute to advocacy, networking, partnership development, innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building. The successful candidate will be expected to apply their technical knowledge and leadership experience to support effective nutrition and public health programming while contributing to strategic priorities and programme outcomes.
1. Managerial Leadership
Provide effective managerial leadership across relevant nutrition and public health activities and programmes.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing managerial leadership in the planning and implementation of nutrition and health-related programmes.
Supporting the effective coordination and management of programme activities.
Providing leadership to ensure that programme priorities and activities are aligned with established objectives.
Applying strategic thinking to programme management and decision-making.
Providing appropriate direction and support to ensure that programme activities are effectively managed.
Supporting the achievement of programme results through effective leadership, coordination, and management.
Contributing to an environment that supports effective programme implementation and delivery.
2. Programme Development and Planning
Lead and contribute to the development and planning of relevant programmes in nutrition, public health, and related areas.
This includes:
Supporting the development of nutrition and public health programmes and projects.
Contributing to programme planning processes and the establishment of relevant programme priorities.
Applying technical knowledge and experience to programme development and planning.
Supporting the development of programmes that respond to relevant nutrition and public health needs.
Contributing to effective planning processes that provide a clear basis for programme implementation.
Considering relevant nutrition, health, and public health issues when supporting programme development and planning.
The role requires strong programme development and planning experience, particularly within nutrition and public health contexts.
3. Programme Management, Monitoring and Quality Control of Results
Provide effective management, monitoring, and quality control of programme implementation and results.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting the effective management of nutrition and public health programmes.
Monitoring programme implementation and progress.
Reviewing programme results to assess the quality and effectiveness of activities.
Supporting quality control processes to ensure that programme results meet established expectations.
Identifying relevant programme implementation issues and supporting appropriate management responses.
Applying technical and managerial knowledge to strengthen programme performance.
Maintaining an appropriate focus on programme results, quality, and effective implementation.
The position requires the ability to combine programme management experience with monitoring and quality-focused approaches to ensure that activities are effectively implemented and that expected results are achieved.
4. Advisory Services and Technical Support
Provide advisory services and technical support in relevant areas of nutrition and public health.
This involves:
Providing technical advice related to nutrition and public health programmes.
Supporting programme teams and relevant stakeholders with technical guidance.
Applying professional knowledge and experience to programme-related issues.
Providing advisory support during programme development, planning, management, and implementation.
Contributing technical perspectives to programme discussions and decision-making.
Supporting the effective application of nutrition and public health knowledge within relevant programmes.
The role requires substantial technical experience and the ability to provide appropriate advice and support across nutrition and health-related programme areas.
5. Advocacy, Networking and Partnership Building
Support advocacy, networking, and partnership-building activities related to nutrition and public health.
Key areas include:
Contributing to advocacy efforts relating to nutrition and public health.
Building and maintaining relevant professional networks.
Developing and strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
Supporting strategic engagement with partners and stakeholders.
Using professional knowledge and experience to contribute to advocacy and partnership objectives.
Promoting collaboration and coordination within relevant nutrition and health programme areas.
Proven experience in advocacy and partnership building is required, together with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and contribute to strategic thinking.
6. Innovation, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building
Contribute to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity-building activities within relevant programme areas.
This includes:
Supporting innovative approaches to nutrition and public health programming.
Contributing to the identification and sharing of relevant knowledge.
Supporting effective knowledge management within programme activities.
Contributing to capacity-building initiatives in nutrition and public health.
Applying professional experience to strengthen knowledge and technical capacity.
Supporting the development and sharing of relevant knowledge and experience across programme areas.
7. Minimum Educational Requirements
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree or equivalent Advanced University Degree in a relevant field.
Acceptable areas of study include:
Nutrition
Public Health
Nutritional Epidemiology
Global or International Health and Nutrition
Health or Nutrition Research
Health or Nutrition Policy and Management
Health Sciences
Other relevant health-related science fields
The educational background should provide an appropriate foundation for the technical, managerial, and programme responsibilities associated with the position.
8. Professional Experience
The candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition, public health, or related areas.
Relevant experience may include work in:
Nutrition
Public Health
Nutrition Policy
Health Systems
Food Systems
Humanitarian Nutrition
Other related fields
The required experience should demonstrate substantial exposure to relevant programme and technical areas and should support the candidate’s ability to provide managerial leadership, technical advice, programme support, advocacy, and strategic input.

The successful candidate should demonstrate proven experience and capability in the following areas:

10. Language Requirements
Fluency in English is required for the position.
The ability to communicate effectively in English is necessary for carrying out the professional, technical, managerial, advisory, networking, and partnership-related responsibilities associated with the role.
11. Desirable Qualifications and Experience
The following qualifications and experience would be considered desirable:
Language
Knowledge of another official United Nations language, including:
Arabic
Chinese
French
Russian
Spanish
Knowledge of a relevant local language is also considered desirable.
Programme Development and Management Experience
Experience in health and nutrition programme or project development and management within a United Nations system agency or organisation would be an advantage.
Such experience would provide relevant exposure to programme development, planning, management, monitoring, and implementation within a UN system environment.
Country-Level Experience
Relevant experience at country level is also desirable, particularly experience gained in:
Development settings
Fragile settings
Humanitarian contexts
Experience across these settings would be valuable in supporting relevant nutrition and public health programmes and in applying technical and managerial knowledge to different operating environments.
