Position Summary
The Senior Communications Officer will provide strategic leadership for the programme's communications function, developing and implementing communication initiatives that enhance visibility, influence key audiences, and strengthen stakeholder engagement. Working closely with the External Engagement and Influencing (EEI) team, the role will translate research findings, programme evidence, and technical information into compelling communication products that support advocacy, policy influence, fundraising, and knowledge sharing. The position also provides leadership to the Social Media and Digital Officer while strengthening the programme's internal and external communications capacity.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that enhance the programme's visibility and advance its strategic objectives.
Shape and maintain a consistent programme narrative across internal and external communication platforms.
Collaborate with the External Engagement and Influencing team to support advocacy campaigns and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
Content Development and Knowledge Translation
Transform research findings, programme evidence, and technical information into accessible communication products tailored to diverse audiences.
Produce high-quality communication materials, including policy briefs, reports, presentations, newsletters, media content, and other advocacy resources.
Ensure communication products effectively inform policymakers, development partners, donors, implementers, and other stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement
Support communication activities that strengthen partnerships and encourage collaboration across the violence against women and girls (VAWG) prevention sector.
Promote programme achievements and evidence to influence policy development, improve practice, mobilize resources, and increase public awareness.
Digital Communications
Oversee the programme's digital communication activities, including social media campaigns and online content.
Use digital communication and analytics tools to evaluate performance and improve audience engagement.
Supervise and provide guidance to the Social Media and Digital Officer to ensure effective delivery of digital communication objectives.
Events and Field Communications
Support the planning and delivery of workshops, events, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Travel to programme locations to document project activities, collect success stories, and produce communication materials that showcase programme impact.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
A bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or another related discipline from a recognized institution.
Familiarity with development or humanitarian programmes, particularly those operating in emergency or complex contexts.
Knowledge or practical experience in graphic design, photography, videography, and digital content creation.
Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of French or Arabic will be considered an added advantage.
Willingness and ability to travel to field locations as required.
Professional Experience
Candidates should have:
Six to eight years of relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, advocacy, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience developing audience-focused communication products for public, donor, or stakeholder engagement.
Practical experience managing social media platforms to support communication, advocacy, and public engagement initiatives.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, as well as familiarity with AI-powered communication tools.
Experience using digital analytics platforms and interpreting communication performance metrics to inform decision-making.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines.
Proven ability to coordinate activities across multidisciplinary and cross-organizational teams.
Experience organizing conferences, workshops, stakeholder meetings, or other professional events.
Results-oriented mindset with strong planning, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
Experience working on donor-funded programmes or projects will be considered an added advantage.
