COMMUNICATIONS INTERN – MULTIMEDIA CONTENT PRODUCTION
Country Summary
Swisscontact Kenya serves as the regional office for the CESAF region and functions as a central hub for programmes implemented across Kenya. For more than two decades, Swisscontact Kenya has supported and empowered young people through initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, market-oriented skills development, and sustainable development.
The organisation currently manages a diverse portfolio of programmes covering several areas, including Agribusiness, Eye Healthcare, Digital Skills, Green Skills, and E-Mobility entrepreneurship.
One of the programmes being implemented is PropelA, which focuses on supporting young people through skills development, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship in electrical, plumbing, and lift mechanics trades.
Through its programmes, Swisscontact Kenya works to support skills development and opportunities that respond to market needs while contributing to sustainable development. The organisation's communications activities play an important role in documenting programme activities, highlighting results, sharing learning, and communicating impact to stakeholders and wider audiences.
General Position Summary
Function: Communications Intern – Multimedia Content Production
Reporting Date: As soon as possible, or as mutually agreed
Contract Type: Paid Internship, initially for three months and renewable subject to satisfactory performance
Reporting To: Country Communications Lead
The Communications Intern will support the organisation’s communications and visibility objectives through the creation of engaging visual and digital content.
The intern will contribute to the documentation and communication of programme activities, results, learning, and impact through photography, videography, editing, storytelling, and social media content development.
The role will involve supporting content creation across events, field visits, programme activities, and other relevant organisational engagements. The intern will work with project teams and the Country Communications Lead to identify opportunities to capture and communicate stories that demonstrate programme results and impact.
The position provides an opportunity to contribute to communications activities while gaining practical experience in multimedia content production, digital storytelling, social media content development, and organisational communications.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Multimedia Content Production
The Communications Intern will support the production of high-quality visual and digital materials for use across the organisation’s communication channels.
Key responsibilities include:
Capturing high-quality photographs during events, field visits, and programme activities.
Recording high-quality video content during relevant organisational and programme activities.
Supporting photography and videography activities that document programme implementation and results.
Editing photographs to produce suitable visual materials for communication purposes.
Editing videos and developing engaging multimedia content for different audiences and platforms.
Creating reels and short-form video clips for social media and digital communication channels.
Producing other digital assets required for websites, presentations, social media, and communication materials.
Working closely with project teams to identify activities and stories that can be developed into communications content.
Identifying opportunities to showcase programme results, learning, achievements, and impact through visual storytelling.
Supporting the development of visual stories that communicate programme activities and outcomes effectively.
Assisting with interviews and the development of interview-based content.
Supporting the preparation of event highlights that capture key activities and moments.
Developing post-event recap content for internal and external audiences.
Ensuring that multimedia content is relevant, engaging, and appropriate for its intended audience.
Supporting the production of content that strengthens stakeholder engagement and organisational visibility.
The intern will be expected to use photography, videography, editing, and storytelling skills to transform programme activities into clear and engaging visual content.
Digital Content and Social Media Support
The Communications Intern will contribute to the development of content for digital platforms and social media channels.
Responsibilities include:
Developing visual and digital materials suitable for social media platforms.
Adapting multimedia content into appropriate digital formats.
Supporting the development of short-form content and other emerging digital formats.
Keeping familiar with social media platforms and relevant content trends.
Supporting the creation of content that communicates programme activities, results, learning, and impact.
Helping ensure that digital content is engaging and suitable for the intended audience.
Supporting the preparation of visual materials for websites and other organisational communication channels.
The role requires an understanding of how visual content can be adapted for different digital platforms and audiences.
Content Organisation and Asset Management
The Communications Intern will also be responsible for supporting the proper organisation and management of multimedia assets.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintaining organised digital content files.
Properly storing photographs, videos, graphics, and other multimedia assets.
Organising content so that it can be easily located and retrieved when required.
Maintaining digital content assets in accordance with organisational guidelines and standards.
Supporting appropriate management of multimedia materials generated through events, field activities, and programme activities.
Ensuring that relevant digital content is organised and maintained for future communication needs.
Good organisation of digital assets will support the efficient use and retrieval of communications materials across the organisation.
Collaboration with Programme Teams
The intern will work with project teams to identify and document communications opportunities.
This will include:
Engaging with project teams to understand programme activities.
Identifying activities that demonstrate programme results and impact.
Supporting project teams in communicating relevant programme stories.
Capturing appropriate photographs and videos during field activities and events.
Supporting the development of content that communicates programme learning and results.
Collaborating with colleagues to ensure that content reflects programme activities accurately.
Contributing to communications activities that strengthen organisational visibility.
Additional Responsibilities
The Communications Intern will support the Country Communications Lead and contribute to other Swisscontact Kenya activities as required.
This may include:
Providing communications support to the Country Communications Lead.
Supporting other Swisscontact Kenya communications activities as required.
Assisting with multimedia content production for relevant organisational activities.
Supporting other communications-related tasks assigned within the scope of the internship.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across relevant programme activities.
The intern should demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support communications activities as organisational needs arise.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate should possess a degree or diploma in one of the following areas, or a related field:
Communications
Journalism
Digital Media
Film Production
Public Relations
Marketing
The candidate should also demonstrate practical skills and interest in multimedia content production.
Required skills and experience include:
Demonstrable ability in photography.
Demonstrable ability in videography.
Experience or practical ability in multimedia content production.
Knowledge of camera operation.
Knowledge of mobile photography techniques.
Knowledge of mobile videography techniques.
Ability to create and edit digital content.
Familiarity with relevant content creation and editing software.
Experience or proficiency with tools such as the following will be relevant:
Canva
Adobe Express
CapCut
Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Photoshop
Lightroom
Microsoft Clipchamp
PowerPoint
Similar content creation and editing software
The candidate should also be familiar with social media platforms, digital content formats, and emerging content trends.
An important requirement is the ability to translate programme activities, results, and impact into engaging visual and digital stories.
Graphic design skills and previous experience in graphic design will be an added advantage.

Relevant experience may be drawn from academic assignments, personal projects, volunteer activities, freelance engagements, or previous professional work.
Portfolio Requirements
The portfolio may contain:
Samples of photography work.
Short-form videos, reels, or edited video productions. Applicants should provide at least three (3) examples, preferably covering:
An event highlights video.
An impact story or interview.
A social media-focused video.
Social media posts, campaigns, or other digital content.
Graphic design projects, where available.
Applicants may share their work through an online portfolio, Google Drive folder, YouTube or Vimeo channel, or a social media account where their work can be reviewed.
