Position Summary
The Compliance Officer will work under the Compliance & ER Specialist.
Their main job is to make sure the company follows all legal, statutory, regulatory, and internal policy rules.They will help with audits, license renewals, regulatory inspections, compliance reports, legal documents, policy implementation, and reducing risks at manufacturing sites and other business areas.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
Check and make sure the company follows all relevant laws and rules including the Employment Act, OSHA, EMCA, food safety rules, KEBS requirements, NEMA, DOSHS, county licenses, public health, fire regulations, and other industry-specific approvals.
License Renewals & Statutory Filings
Keep track of when licenses and permits expire, organize renewals on time, and keep all compliance records in both physical and digital formats.
Regulatory Inspections & Audit Support
Work with regulatory bodies like KEBS, NEMA, DOSHS, county health, fire, labor, and others.
Help with inspections, follow up on any findings, and ensure all issues are resolved by the agreed deadlines.
Legal & Contract Support
Help with legal and contract matters, work with outside lawyers, keep track of legal cases, and support in creating, reviewing, and tracking contracts and agreements.
Policy Development & Implementation
Help create, review, and put into practice compliance policies, standard operating procedures, manuals, and internal controls across all departments.
Risk Management
Identify any compliance issues, gaps, incidents, or failures.
Report these quickly and suggest ways to fix them to lower legal and operational risks.
Food Safety & Quality Compliance
Support following HACCP, ISO 22000, ISO 9001, GMP, KEBS standards, labeling rules, recall procedures, and food handling practices.
Training & Awareness
Provide training and raise awareness on food safety, labor laws, health and safety, data protection, anti-bribery, ethics, and other regulatory requirements.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare regular compliance reports, dashboards, legal updates, briefings, and management reports that cover compliance status, risks, incidents, and steps taken to correct issues.
Qualifications & Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Law and being admitted as an Advocate in the High Court of Kenya.
Certifications in Compliance, Risk Management, Audit, or related areas like CISA or CFE are a bonus.
0–2 years of experience in a compliance or regulatory role, preferably in manufacturing or FMCG.
Experience with regulatory agencies such as KEBS, DOSHS, NEMA, county governments, public health, fire, and labor offices is a plus.
Knowledge of ISO 22000, ISO 9001, food safety, occupational health and safety, environmental, labor, and corporate laws is desired.
Key Skills & Competencies
Good understanding of Kenya’s regulatory compliance systems.
Strong knowledge of food safety and occupational health and safety standards.
Excellent at analyzing, investigating, reporting, and solving problems.
High standards of integrity, confidentiality, ethics, and professionalism.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team across departments.
Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
Attention to detail, accuracy, proactiveness, and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to influence staff and build a strong compliance culture.
