About this role
Job Purpose
The Driver Mechanic is responsible for safely transporting and delivering products to customers while making sure the assigned vehicles are always in great condition.
This includes doing regular checks, keeping up with maintenance, and fixing small problems.The role mixes driving with mechanical skills to reduce vehicle breakdowns and ensure deliveries are made on time.
Job Description
Driving & Distribution
- Operate company trucks safely and follow Kenyan traffic rules and company policies.
- Deliver products exactly as ordered and on time to customers on assigned routes.
- Check the amount of products delivered against the invoices and delivery notes.
- Get customer signatures on delivery documents and return them.
- Make sure products are loaded and secured properly to avoid damage.
- Do vehicle checks before and after each trip.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or traffic issues right away.
- Provide good customer service and represent MobileMart well.
Vehicle Maintenance & Mechanical Duties
- Do daily vehicle checks before starting a trip.
- Identify and fix small mechanical problems.
- Carry out preventive maintenance such as:
- Checking engine oil
- Checking coolant
- Checking brakes
- Checking tyres
- Maintaining the battery
- Adjusting belts
- Replace worn parts only when allowed.
- Arrange for major repairs with approved mechanics.
- Keep detailed records of all maintenance work.
- Keep track of vehicle service schedules and mileage.
- Report serious mechanical issues before they cause breakdowns.
Fleet Caree
- Keep the assigned vehicle clean.
- Ensure all legal requirements are up to date, including:
- Insurance
- Inspection certificates
- Road licence
- Fire extinguisher
- Reflective triangles
- First aid kit
- Monitor fuel use and report any unusual patterns.
- Drive in a way that saves fuel and reduces costs.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all company safety rules.
- Comply with workplace safety standards.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Meet transport standards.
- Keep company information confidential.
Documentation
- Complete daily vehicle inspection forms.
- Keep track of vehicle mileage.
- Submit fuel receipts and reports on expenses.
- Record all repairs and maintenance work done.
- Report incidents when necessary.
Requirements
Education
- KCSE Certificate or equivalent.
Professional Qualifications
- Valid Kenyan Driving Licence Class BCE (must have).
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Defensive Driving Certificate (a plus).
- Automotive Mechanics Certification (Grade III/II/I, Artisan Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent) is a big advantage.
Experience
- At least 5 years of professional driving experience.
- Applicants should be 40 years or older.
- Experience driving medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
- Proven experience with vehicle maintenance and fixing small mechanical issues.
- Experience in FMCG or beverage distribution is preferred.
