Job Overview
The Electrical Engineer Intern or Co-op will work with a team of Electrical Engineers on client design projects. The intern will assist with preparing engineering drawings, performing calculations, and developing other project deliverables. The role also involves collaborating with professionals from other engineering disciplines to ensure that complete and coordinated engineering packages are delivered to clients.
Responsibilities
Carry out electrical engineering calculations of limited complexity under appropriate supervision. These may cover areas such as lighting distribution, conduit and cable tray capacity, voltage drop, feeder sizing, and related tasks.
Prepare, update, and maintain electrical drawings and documentation, including single-line diagrams, schematic and interconnection diagrams, conduit and cable schedules, and plans covering lighting, grounding, power, controls, and raceways.
Assist in developing power system study models used for short-circuit analysis, load flow studies, protective device coordination, and arc flash calculations.
Provide support to experienced Electrical Engineers with assigned project and engineering activities as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree program, or equivalent, in Electrical Engineering at a four-year accredited college or university.
Strong communication abilities are required, including the ability to clearly express technical ideas and information.
Must be comfortable working as part of multidisciplinary teams involving Nexus personnel, clients, and other project stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
Demonstrates a willingness to receive feedback and use it to improve performance.
Previous experience using AutoCAD or other drafting applications is preferred.
Familiarity with power system modeling programs such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower is considered an advantage.

Electrical distribution systems and related engineering concepts, including protective schemes, device coordination, emergency power systems, motor controls, and installation methods for hazardous areas.
Drafting and design applications such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Navisworks, and other related software.
The use and application of industry codes and standards relevant to electrical engineering.
Utility interface voltages and the medium- and low-voltage distribution systems used by clients.
Compensation and Application Information
This is a competitively paid internship or co-op opportunity. Applicants interested in completing a co-op during a particular semester should indicate their preferred semester in the cover letter.
