EQUIPMENT OPERATOR / TEAM LEAD
POSITION SUMMARY
The Equipment Operator / Team Lead will supervise a team of equipment operators while also operating construction and maintenance equipment when required. The role is responsible for coordinating personnel and machinery according to project priorities, maintaining safe working practices and ensuring assigned equipment remains operational and properly maintained.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Coordination and Work Allocation
Lead and provide day-to-day direction to a team of Equipment Operators.
Assign personnel and equipment according to project requirements, priorities and available resources.
Step in to perform equipment operation duties whenever operational needs require.
Communicate clearly with clients, project teams, supervisors and fellow employees.
Provide guidance to less experienced operators on the correct use, care and handling of equipment.
Complete required administrative and operational documentation.
Carry out manual work and other assigned duties when necessary.
Equipment Operation
Operate a range of light, medium and selected heavy-duty machinery and trucks.
Safely operate equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, rollers, compactors, tractors, sprayers, sweepers, plows, forklifts, backhoes and similar machinery.
Operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles and equipment where qualified.
Perform equipment-related tasks supporting construction, project operations, maintenance and site activities.
Ensure machinery is operated correctly and in accordance with established procedures.
Equipment Maintenance and Inspection
Carry out routine checks of assigned machinery before and during use.
Identify mechanical defects and report significant equipment problems promptly.
Coordinate servicing, maintenance and repairs to keep equipment in safe working condition.
Perform minor or emergency repairs when appropriately trained and authorized to do so.
Follow proper procedures for equipment care, storage and daily maintenance.
Safety and Compliance
Maintain strict adherence to workplace health and safety procedures.
Ensure equipment is operated in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
Follow applicable project, contract, security and safety requirements.
Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects and other hazards promptly.
Support a strong safety culture among team members and other site personnel.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Perform responsibilities normally assigned to subordinate operators when operational requirements dictate.
Assist with manual labor and other project-related activities as needed.
Undertake additional duties assigned by management or the project supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Four to seven years of related experience in equipment operation, construction, operations or maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to operate the equipment required for the position.
Relevant equipment/operator certification is mandatory.
Sufficient physical ability and practical knowledge to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English at an intermediate level to meet workplace safety, health, security and operational requirements.
Strong awareness of equipment safety, maintenance and operating procedures.
