FIELD STATION OPERATIONS ASSISTANT
Position Purpose
The Field Station Operations Assistant will support the day-to-day running of the Muhaka field station by ensuring the premises remain clean, secure, well maintained and ready for research activities. The role involves grounds maintenance, coordination of security matters, monitoring of facilities and equipment, and timely reporting of issues that could affect station operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain lawns and other grassed areas by mowing, trimming and clearing vegetation using appropriate powered equipment and hand tools.
Keep the station grounds, buildings and surrounding facilities clean, orderly and presentable, including clearing waste and other materials generated during maintenance activities.
Coordinate routine security activities at the station and promptly raise significant security concerns with the appropriate supervisor or responsible team.
Maintain accurate records of routine servicing, preventive maintenance and use of station equipment, tools and related assets.
Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day station matters and represent icipe at the field location when required.
Conduct routine checks of maintenance and operational records and report faults, repairs or other facility requirements that may interfere with station activities.
Provide occasional assistance with monitoring field research trials and report observations or operational issues when requested.
Undertake additional operational or support duties assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
At least one year of relevant experience in groundskeeping, facilities maintenance, property support, field station operations, security coordination or a related environment.
Previous experience maintaining records relating to equipment use, inspections, servicing and general maintenance activities.
Good organisational and record-management abilities, with attention to accuracy and detail.
Ability to carry out assigned responsibilities independently and with minimal supervision.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
Willingness to support a range of practical station activities and respond to operational needs as they arise.
