About this role
Finance Officer
A finance role with a wider operational remit, supporting everything from accounting and reporting to compliance, procurement, administration, and financial systems.
The Finance Officer will work as part of the regional finance function, helping keep financial transactions accurate, reporting reliable, controls effective, and day-to-day administrative processes running smoothly.
The reporting line
The position reports directly to the Regional Finance Manager and works closely with the Regional Senior Finance Manager and Finance and Administration representatives in the regional office.
At country-office level, the Finance Officer collaborates with the Country (Projects) Manager, Regional Senior Finance Manager, and Regional Finance Manager.
What the role covers
Financial operations
You’ll help manage the organization’s financial activity by processing transactions, maintaining accounting records, completing bank and ledger reconciliations, and handling accounts payable and receivable.
The role also involves ensuring financial activities follow organizational policies, donor requirements, and established internal controls.
Reporting and budgets
Financial information needs to be timely and useful. You’ll prepare financial and donor reports, contribute to month-end and year-end closing activities, and monitor project budgets.
Part of the work will involve reviewing expenditure against budgets, identifying variances, and providing information that helps management with planning and decision-making.
Payroll and statutory obligations
The Finance Officer will support payroll administration and maintain related records. Responsibilities also include preparing and remitting statutory deductions and helping ensure compliance with applicable tax, labour, and other statutory requirements.
Procurement, grants and assets
The role extends beyond the accounts function. You’ll support procurement activities, maintain the documentation behind purchases, monitor grant expenditure, and help ensure donor requirements are followed.
You’ll also be involved in organizational asset management and inventory control.
Keeping the office running
Administrative support may include coordinating records, travel, logistics, facilities, supplier contracts, and office resources. The objective is to help maintain an efficient working environment and dependable day-to-day office operations.
Controls, risk and audit
Strong financial controls are central to the position. You’ll help maintain control procedures, support internal and external audits, identify financial risks, and report concerns appropriately.
Where audits identify improvements, you’ll assist with implementing recommendations and strengthening governance and compliance practices.
Working with others
The Finance Officer will provide financial and administrative support to programme teams, management, donors, suppliers, banks, and statutory authorities.
The role therefore requires someone who can combine financial accuracy with responsive service and professional working relationships.
Improving how finance works
There is also an opportunity to contribute to better ways of working. The position supports improvements to finance and administrative processes, ERP and digital solutions, automation initiatives, and broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
What you need
Education and professional credentials
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
CPA (K), ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
Membership of ICPAK or another recognized professional accounting body is an added advantage.
Professional experience
3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and administration.
Experience in an international NGO or donor-funded environment is preferred.
Practical experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and grant financial management.
Experience supporting procurement and administrative activities.
Experience with ERP or accounting platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SunSystems, SAP, Oracle, or similar systems.
Good understanding of donor compliance requirements and Kenyan statutory regulations.
A role for a broad finance professional
This position goes beyond transaction processing. It brings together accounting, reporting, grants, compliance, procurement, administration, systems, and operational support, making it well suited to a finance professional who is comfortable working across multiple areas of an organization.
