Financial Accountant
Budget: KSh 80,000
Job Purpose
The Financial Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager to maintain accurate financial records and support the organization’s reporting and compliance requirements. The position will oversee general ledger activities, strengthen internal controls, assist with financial reporting, and contribute to improving accounting processes. The role will also provide financial information that supports informed business decisions and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Management
Record financial transactions accurately and within the required timelines.
Reconcile income statement and balance sheet accounts and investigate differences that arise.
Monitor salary control accounts and ensure they are cleared correctly in accordance with accounting standards.
Prepare and process routine and adjustment journal entries.
Assist with monthly and annual financial closing activities.
Maintain accurate records of fixed assets, including additions, disposals, tracking, and depreciation.
Financial Reporting
Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Review budget and forecast variances and provide useful financial information to management.
Prepare reliable financial reports for both internal and external users.
Ensure financial reporting practices comply with IFRS and applicable regulatory requirements.
Reconcile tax-related accounts and investigate and correct discrepancies.
Internal Controls
Apply and monitor established financial control procedures.
Review accounting processes for weaknesses and suggest appropriate improvements.
Assist internal and external auditors by providing relevant records, supporting documents, and financial information.
Additional Responsibilities
Monitor accounting systems to ensure transactions are entered accurately and on time.
Review existing processes and identify ways to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary work.
Work with HR, payroll, and audit teams to resolve accounting issues and improve coordination.
Assist colleagues with training and guidance on accounting systems and procedures.
Provide financial analysis and information that can support management decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related discipline.
CPA (K), ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
Demonstrated experience working in financial management and accounting within a busy environment.
Practical experience using accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with project management and accounting platforms.
Good understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to turn financial information into useful insights for decision-making.
Strong client service and relationship management skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication abilities.
Ability to manage several responsibilities, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Professional attitude with a willingness to develop new skills and continuously learn.
