Full-Stack Engineer Job at Nova Pioneer – AI Curriculum Tool
Nova Pioneer is looking for a Full-Stack Engineer to help develop an internal technology tool that will make curriculum planning easier for educators. The project combines software development, artificial intelligence and education, with the aim of giving teachers a practical system for creating and managing lesson plans.
The engineer joining the project will not simply be building another general-purpose website. The application is being designed around Nova Pioneer's existing curriculum structures, standards and learning materials. Teachers and administrators will use the system to generate, edit and publish lesson plans while working within those established guidelines.
This makes the position particularly relevant to developers who enjoy building products around real user needs and who are interested in the growing use of AI in education.
What the Engineer Will Be Building
The main product is a web-based application intended for internal use by teachers and administrators. A teacher should be able to use the system as part of the lesson-planning process, while administrators will have tools for managing users and related activities.
On the technical side, the engineer will work across the application rather than concentrating only on the visible interface. The front end will need to support lesson-planning workflows and administrative functions, while the backend will handle the more complex work behind the application.
This includes retrieving relevant curriculum information and using it to produce structured lesson-plan outputs. The system will need to connect different sources of information and present the resulting content in a way that is useful to educators.
The developer will also be involved in storing and retrieving lesson plans. Since teachers may need to use previously created or approved material again, the system needs to keep those resources organised and accessible.
Versioning is another part of the project. Lesson plans may be changed over time, so the application needs to keep track of versions rather than treating every edit as an entirely new piece of content.
Where AI Comes In
Artificial intelligence is at the centre of the product. The tool will use AI services to help generate lesson-plan content based on the curriculum information available to it.
That creates an interesting engineering challenge: the system needs to make use of AI while still keeping the generated material within the organisation's curriculum framework.
The engineer will therefore work on integrating AI services and semantic search capabilities. Semantic search allows a system to find information based on its meaning and relevance instead of depending entirely on an exact word or phrase appearing in a search.
For example, instead of simply looking for a specific keyword in a collection of curriculum resources, a semantic search system can identify resources that are conceptually related to what the user is asking for. Those relevant materials can then be used by the application as part of the lesson-planning process.
Experience with large language models and AI integrations would be useful for this work. Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation is also listed as a core skill, so applicants who have worked on systems that combine information retrieval with AI-generated responses may have relevant experience.
More Than Writing Code
One of the interesting aspects of the position is the amount of interaction with people outside the engineering team.
The developer will work directly with product and education stakeholders. That means the person in this role will need to understand
