Graduate Assistant, Health Records – MKU
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to join the School of Clinical Medicine as a Graduate Assistant in the Health Records & Information Management department. The successful candidate will support teaching, research, student development and other academic functions while contributing to the University’s mission of delivering quality higher education.
The position is based in Thika and requires on-site participation in academic and departmental activities.
Reporting to: Head, Health Records & Information Management
Qualifications and Requirements
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Health Records & Information Management, Health Information Science or another relevant discipline, with at least an Upper Second-Class Honours.
Have a minimum of one year’s teaching experience in a recognised institution of higher learning.
Be enrolled in a relevant Master’s degree programme.
Be registered with the Health Records & Information Management Board.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development, review and improvement of academic curricula.
Prepare course outlines to provide a structured framework for teaching and syllabus coverage.
Create and organise learning materials that adequately support the approved course content.
Deliver Certificate and Diploma-level courses within the department.
Prepare, administer and invigilate examinations, assess students’ understanding and submit progressive academic reports to the department.
Guide students in their academic projects and participate in project defence sessions.
Undertake research activities, develop scholarly publications and participate in conferences and other forums for sharing research findings.
Seek and support opportunities for securing research funding for the University.
Organise and facilitate fieldwork, educational trips and student attachments or internships, including assessing students during these activities.
Attend and participate in official University meetings, functions and departmental activities.
Monitor student attendance records and confirm that learners meet the required lecture attendance threshold before being permitted to sit examinations.
Perform administrative tasks and undertake any other responsibilities assigned by the relevant authority.
