Partnerships & Innovation Officer
Role Purpose
The Partnerships & Innovation Officer is responsible for driving strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, fundraising, and innovation initiatives that support the organization's growth in inclusive insurance, healthcare, and climate insurance solutions. Reporting to the Innovation Manager, the role develops funding opportunities, manages donor relationships, coordinates grant implementation, and supports the expansion of innovative products and healthcare initiatives, including the establishment and scale-up of clinic operations.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, development partners, government agencies, healthcare providers, investors, and other stakeholders, the Partnerships & Innovation Officer contributes to business development, product innovation, market expansion, and sustainable revenue growth while ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
The Partnerships & Innovation Officer is responsible for identifying and securing funding opportunities that support strategic business initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
Identify grant funding opportunities from bilateral and multilateral donors, development finance institutions (DFIs), foundations, impact investors, and corporate partners.
Develop high-quality concept notes, grant proposals, funding applications, and pitch presentations.
Build and maintain a robust fundraising pipeline aligned with organizational priorities.
Coordinate fundraising initiatives across business units to maximize funding opportunities.
Conduct research on emerging donor priorities and funding trends.
Support the development of innovative financing models for inclusive insurance and healthcare initiatives.
Monitor fundraising performance against annual targets and recommend improvement strategies.
2. Donor and Partner Relationship Management
The role develops and manages relationships with strategic partners and funding institutions.
Responsibilities include:
Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, development agencies, philanthropic organizations, investors, and strategic partners.
Serve as the primary contact for donor engagement throughout the funding lifecycle.
Coordinate donor meetings, presentations, due diligence processes, and partnership discussions.
Represent the organization at donor forums, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.
Strengthen collaboration with government agencies, healthcare providers, and regional partners.
Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and partnership activities.
Support long-term relationship management strategies that enhance funding sustainability.
3. Grant Management and Compliance
The Partnerships & Innovation Officer ensures successful implementation and compliance of donor-funded projects.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate implementation of awarded grants in accordance with donor agreements.
Monitor grant budgets, milestones, deliverables, and project timelines.
Prepare technical and financial progress reports in collaboration with project teams.
Ensure compliance with donor regulations, contractual obligations, and internal governance policies.
Maintain accurate grant documentation and reporting records.
Support grant audits and donor monitoring visits.
Identify and mitigate risks affecting grant implementation.
4. Strategic Partnerships and Business Development
The role supports business growth through strategic collaborations and partnership development.
Responsibilities include:
Identify partnership opportunities that strengthen innovation and inclusive insurance initiatives.
Coordinate partnership agreements, work plans, and collaborative projects.
Develop relationships with healthcare providers, corporates, development partners, investors, and government institutions.
Explore opportunities for co-funding and blended finance initiatives.
Support expansion into new markets through strategic stakeholder engagement.
Strengthen regional partnerships that enhance organizational visibility and growth.
Monitor partnership performance and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Innovation and Programme Development
The Partnerships & Innovation Officer contributes to the design and implementation of innovative business solutions.
Responsibilities include:
Support the development of inclusive insurance and healthcare programmes aligned with market needs.
Collaborate with product development teams to design innovative insurance products for underserved populations.
Integrate donor priorities into programme design and implementation.
Coordinate cross-functional teams during proposal development and project execution.
Support the implementation of innovation initiatives that improve customer access and business performance.
Identify emerging market opportunities and recommend innovative solutions.
Contribute to product diversification and business expansion strategies.
6. Clinic Operations and Expansion
The role supports the establishment and growth of healthcare service initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate the establishment and operational readiness of healthcare clinics.
Support regulatory compliance requirements for clinic operations.
Monitor clinic performance and service quality.
Coordinate expansion strategies for new clinic locations.
Support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with healthcare providers and operational teams to improve service delivery.
Monitor operational performance against established targets.
7. Marketing, Client Retention and Stakeholder Engagement
The Partnerships & Innovation Officer supports market growth and customer engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
Assist in developing marketing and community outreach campaigns for inclusive insurance products.
Promote awareness of healthcare and insurance solutions among target communities.
Support customer acquisition and retention initiatives.
Strengthen relationships with intermediaries, partners, and clients.
Monitor customer satisfaction and partner engagement.
Coordinate stakeholder communication and engagement activities.
Support initiatives that enhance brand visibility and market presence.
8. Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
The role supports organizational performance measurement and knowledge management.
Responsibilities include:
Maintain grant management dashboards and funding pipelines.
Track proposal success rates, donor engagement, and project outcomes.
Prepare periodic management reports on fundraising and partnership performance.
Monitor project implementation against agreed performance indicators.
Document lessons learned and best practices.
Support organizational learning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Academic Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, International Development, Public Policy, Insurance, or another related field from a recognized institution.
A Master's Degree in a relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
Professional certification in Project Management, Proposal Development, Grant Management, Business Development, or a related field is desirable.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
Experience in the insurance industry, particularly in inclusive insurance, innovation, partnerships, or business development.
Practical experience in fundraising, grant proposal development, and resource mobilization.
Experience managing donor-funded projects and grant compliance requirements.
Demonstrated experience building partnerships with development partners, government agencies, NGOs, investors, or private sector organizations.
Experience coordinating cross-functional projects and stakeholder engagements.
Knowledge of healthcare, financial inclusion, climate insurance, or development programmes will be an added advantage.
Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
