JOB SUMMARY

Sybyl is looking for a WSO2 Implementation Engineer to become part of its Digital Integration & Identity Solutions team in Nairobi. The role will focus on delivering reliable integration platforms and solutions for clients, particularly within the telecommunications and banking industries. The successful candidate will work with WSO2 technologies to develop secure APIs, integration workflows, and customer identity and access management (CIAM) solutions that can operate at scale.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Solution Design and Implementation

• Engage with stakeholders to understand both functional and technical requirements and translate them into API, orchestration, and identity solutions.

• Install, configure, and deploy WSO2 API Manager, WSO2 Micro Integrator, and WSO2 Identity Server for development, testing, production, and disaster recovery environments.

• Design and implement APIs and integration processes linking banking platforms, ERP systems, payment switches, billers, and external applications.

• Build and deploy APIs using Java, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and XML technologies including XSLT and XPath.

• Manage WSO2 platform deployments from start to finish, including containerization and deployment of WSO2 and custom components within Kubernetes/OpenShift environments.

• Develop and publish secure REST and SOAP services as well as event-driven integrations, incorporating technologies such as OAuth2, JWT, and SSO.

• Develop microservices and supporting backend applications using Ballerina and/or Java with Spring Boot.

• Design, implement, and maintain SWIFT connectors and other financial messaging integrations, including MT and MX formats.

CIAM and Identity Management

• Implement CIAM features such as single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and customer self-registration.

• Configure identity federation, custom identity protocols, and adaptive authentication and authorization processes through WSO2 Identity Server.

• Ensure CIAM solutions meet applicable data protection and security requirements, including GDPR and ISO 27001.

Platform Engineering and DevOps

• Build and manage automated CI/CD workflows using Jenkins, GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and Helm.

• Configure highly available environments and disaster recovery capabilities for hybrid infrastructure deployments.

• Establish monitoring, logging, and audit mechanisms using the ELK stack.

Quality, Documentation and Training

• Create and run API test cases, including automated testing approaches such as Cucumber.

• Prepare architecture designs, technical specifications, system documentation, and administration manuals.

• Conduct technical training sessions and workshops for client teams and provide ongoing support after implementation and go-live.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another closely related discipline.

• 3–7+ years of practical experience implementing WSO2 middleware in live production environments, particularly API Manager, Micro Integrator, and Identity Server.

• Proven experience implementing CIAM capabilities such as SSO, MFA, customer self-service, and identity federation.

• Strong understanding of API management, including API lifecycle processes, security policies, and traffic/rate limiting.

• Strong Java programming skills with practical experience working with XML, including XSLT, XPath, and XML Schema.

• Practical experience deploying and managing applications and platforms using Kubernetes and/or OpenShift.

• Experience working with SWIFT connectors or comparable banking and payment messaging solutions.

• Experience delivering technology solutions within telecommunications or banking environments is highly preferred.

• Good working knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.

• Familiarity with Ballerina is an added advantage.
