Construction Interior Designer

Job Purpose

The Construction Interior Designer will independently manage interior design projects from the initial concept through completion and handover. The role involves developing design concepts, preparing drawings and presentations, coordinating project implementation, managing client relationships, conducting site inspections, and ensuring projects meet approved budgets, timelines, and quality standards. The position requires minimal supervision and involves serving as the lead design representative on assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities

Interior Design Development

• Develop creative and functional interior design concepts based on client requirements and project objectives.

• Prepare mood boards, material palettes, space planning layouts, and design presentations.

• Produce detailed interior design drawings, specifications, and schedules.

• Recommend appropriate finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting, and accessories.

• Ensure designs comply with applicable building regulations, safety standards, and company requirements.

Project Coordination and Execution

• Manage assigned interior design projects independently from the design stage through handover.

• Conduct site surveys and collect project requirements.

• Coordinate with architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, contractors, suppliers, and clients.

• Monitor project progress and ensure the approved design intent is maintained during installation.

• Identify and resolve design-related issues on-site by providing practical solutions.

Client Relationship Management

• Meet clients to understand their requirements, preferences, and expectations.

• Present design proposals and obtain the required approvals.

• Provide regular project updates and respond to client concerns.

• Maintain positive client relationships and support opportunities for repeat business.

Budget and Cost Control

• Prepare project cost estimates and material schedules.

• Ensure proposed designs remain within approved budgets.

• Recommend cost-effective design alternatives where appropriate.

• Monitor design variations and communicate their cost implications to management and clients.

Site Supervision and Quality Assurance

• Conduct regular site inspections during project implementation.

• Confirm that workmanship and materials meet approved specifications.

• Prepare site observation reports and recommend corrective measures where required.

• Ensure completed projects meet the required quality standards.

Facilities Maintenance and Renovation Management

• Inspect existing facilities to identify repair, maintenance, and renovation requirements and develop appropriate schedules.

• Design, plan, coordinate, and oversee repairs, preventive maintenance, alterations, and renovation works for existing facilities.

• Ensure maintenance and renovation works comply with approved specifications, budgets, timelines, and quality standards.

• Assess facility conditions and recommend cost-effective improvements that enhance functionality, aesthetics, safety, and asset lifespan.

• Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of maintenance and renovation activities.

• Monitor completed works and verify their quality, recommending corrective action where necessary.

Procurement and Supplier Coordination

• Source materials, finishes, furniture, fittings, and décor items.

• Evaluate supplier proposals and samples based on suitability and quality.

• Coordinate material deliveries and installation schedules.

• Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and contractors.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate project records, drawings, approvals, and correspondence.

• Prepare project progress reports and status updates.

• Ensure project documentation is properly filed and kept up to date.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.

• Professional certification in Interior Design is an added advantage.

Experience

• At least 6 years of experience in interior design and construction project execution.

• Proven experience independently managing interior fit-out projects.

• Experience in commercial, residential, hospitality, or corporate interior projects is desirable.

Skills and Competencies

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, 3Ds Max, Lumion, or similar design software.

• Strong space planning and visualization skills.

• Knowledge of interior materials, finishes, furniture, and construction methods.

• Knowledge of building maintenance, facility renovations, and repair planning.

• Strong project coordination and organizational skills.

• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

• Ability to independently manage multiple projects at the same time.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• High attention to detail and quality.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
