Investment Analyst and Associate - CrossBoundary Energy at CrossBoundary
About this role
Investment Associate / Senior Investment Associate – Energy & Infrastructure
CrossBoundary Energy is looking for an investment professional to join its Investment team and work across the full lifecycle of energy and infrastructure transactions.
This is a broad transaction role. You’ll be involved in raising capital, evaluating new projects, structuring investments, supporting project development, monitoring the existing portfolio, and managing investment risks.
From opportunity to financial close
You’ll help turn potential projects into financeable investments.
Your work will include assessing opportunities from the early lead stage through financial close and Commercial Operation Date (COD), with responsibility for areas such as:
Evaluating project economics, risks, and investment potential.
Building and reviewing financial models.
Structuring senior debt, subordinated debt, and bridge financing.
Helping determine whether opportunities meet portfolio objectives, return expectations, and risk parameters.
Supporting transactions so projects are appropriately structured for project finance investors.
Reviewing project contracts and development assumptions.
Working with the Project Development team to identify ways to improve project value and investment outcomes.
Capital raising
A significant part of the role will involve helping secure financing at both group and project level.
You’ll contribute to senior and subordinated debt fundraising processes, including developing:
Corporate and project finance models.
Investor presentations.
Investment memoranda.
Due diligence materials.
Other transaction and fundraising documentation.
You’ll also support term-sheet negotiations and the broader processes required to move financing transactions forward.
Looking after the portfolio
The role continues after an investment closes.
You’ll maintain portfolio financial models, track investment performance, and monitor debt covenants and other key indicators.
A major expectation will be identifying potential risks early rather than waiting for them to become problems. You’ll assess emerging issues, recommend appropriate responses, and help execute mitigation measures.
Structuring and investor engagement
You’ll also work on group- and project-level structuring matters, including tax, capital, and corporate structures designed to achieve strong economic outcomes.
On the investor side, you’ll prepare updates and engagement materials and contribute to maintaining productive relationships with investors and other stakeholders.
The experience we’re looking for
Candidates should typically bring 3–6 years of relevant experience from one or more of the following environments:
Energy, infrastructure, or project finance within a leading investment or commercial bank.
A specialist financial advisory firm or investment organization focused on energy or infrastructure M&A or transaction advisory.
A project finance team within a successful energy developer or independent power producer.
You should have demonstrated transaction experience covering areas such as corporate or project finance, financial modelling, due diligence, investment analysis, fundraising, and transaction execution.
Experience working in African markets, particularly within the energy sector, is important.
You’ll also need:
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
The ability to manage several complex workstreams at once.
Confidence working with diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong relationship-management skills.
The mindset that will work here
This opportunity is suited to someone who wants to work at the intersection of finance and the energy transition.
You’ll need curiosity about energy, power, economics, geopolitics, and environmental issues, together with the patience to work through complicated investment questions.
The right person will be comfortable making progress when information is incomplete, adapting when circumstances change, and staying focused on practical solutions.
You should be:
Self-directed and motivated by the opportunity to create meaningful change in emerging markets.
Comfortable working across jurisdictions and cultures.
Ethical and committed to strong investor-relations and compliance standards.
Highly organized and personally accountable for multiple priorities.
Resilient when transactions become complicated or slow-moving.
Comfortable in a dynamic environment.
Eager to deepen your expertise in energy-transition investing.
This is an opportunity to work across transactions rather than within a single investment function — combining fundraising, financial analysis, project finance, portfolio management, structuring, and risk management in the rapidly evolving African energy sector.
