Job Purpose

The Technical Lead will oversee the day-to-day operations of the software engineering and DevOps functions, ensuring that technical work is delivered efficiently, securely, and to the required quality standards. The role involves coordinating teams, improving technical processes, managing delivery performance, and turning business and technology priorities into practical execution plans. The Technical Lead will also support system stability, development efficiency, continuous improvement, and collaboration across technical and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Operations and Delivery

• Coordinate the execution of software design and development activities, ensuring systems meet requirements for scalability, security, reliability, and performance.

• Support teams in adopting cloud-based deployment approaches across AWS and other cloud platforms.

• Coordinate API implementation and integration to ensure development work supports business and technical requirements.

• Oversee the delivery and operation of database systems including SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and EF/Core.

• Promote effective use of DevOps technologies and practices such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Ensure development teams consistently follow security and coding standards, including OAuth, JWT, code reviews, automated testing, and secure development practices.

• Evaluate new technologies with engineers and help introduce solutions that can improve system performance and development productivity.

• Identify weaknesses in technical processes and introduce improvements that strengthen system stability, scalability, and performance.

• Coordinate the investigation and resolution of major software defects and production incidents while meeting applicable SLAs.

• Coordinate improvements and enhancements to existing products based on user requirements and stakeholder feedback.

• Manage software releases across development, testing, and production environments while maintaining proper version control and reducing deployment interruptions.

• Ensure technical documentation remains accurate, available, and useful for knowledge sharing, onboarding, and system maintenance.

Team Leadership and Performance

• Direct the daily activities of software engineering and DevOps teams and ensure workloads are appropriately distributed.

• Provide technical and operational guidance to engineers and encourage consistent use of effective delivery practices.

• Set performance expectations, conduct regular reviews, and support improvement plans where necessary.

• Encourage employee development through relevant workshops, training programmes, and professional certifications.

• Participate in recruitment activities, including technical interviews and assessment of potential technical hires.

• Support onboarding by helping new employees become familiar with the required systems, tools, workflows, and processes.

• Ensure team members participate effectively in stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and other Agile activities.

Collaboration and Business Support

• Work with project managers, designers, QA teams, and business stakeholders to coordinate technical delivery with wider project objectives.

• Work with customer support teams when issues require engineering assistance and help ensure problems are resolved within appropriate timelines.

• Coordinate technical team activities for complex and high-priority projects in line with organizational deadlines and leadership priorities.

• Adapt technical operations when business priorities, organizational structures, or growth requirements change.

• Maintain awareness of developments in the technology industry and apply relevant practices to improve technical operations.

• Support research and experimentation involving new platforms, tools, and development methodologies.

• Participate in compliance reviews and related organizational processes.

• Carry out other responsibilities necessary to support business operations and ensure technology continues to enable organizational growth.

Security and Compliance

• Coordinate with DevOps and Security teams to maintain encryption and secure communication mechanisms that protect information during transmission.

• Support vulnerability management activities, including security scanning, remediation coordination, and compliance monitoring.

• Oversee operational security activities and audit-log reviews to promote system accountability and integrity.

• Ensure technical teams follow applicable security, development, and operational standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Certifications in .NET or cloud technologies are an added advantage.

• At least 8 years of practical experience developing applications using .NET/.NET Core, including experience delivering scalable systems.

• Experience in financial services or payments is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of ASP.NET MVC/Core, web security, and client-server communication.

• Practical experience with SQL Server and MySQL database integration, including schema design and query performance optimization.

• Experience deploying .NET applications to cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure and working with cloud-native services.

• Experience working within Agile environments such as Scrum or Kanban, including active involvement in sprint-based development.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

• Experience managing diverse technical teams and coordinating different workloads effectively.

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
