Purpose
The Front-end engineer adjusts Frappe Desk, creates the end-user Progressive Web App (PWA) using Frappe UI, and ensures the app works well when there is no internet connection.
They create the frontend based on the priorities set by the product owner and the architects.
Accountabilities & functional responsibilities
- Designs, develops, and maintains the frontend of the new Protection digital ecosystem and the PWA app using the Frappe Framework.
- Customizes Frappe Desk for advanced users like data managers, analysts, and administrators.
- Ensures that users with different levels of digital skills can easily use the app by focusing on simple interactions, clear guidance, and easy error handling.
- Offers advice on extending the design system and creating user experience patterns for field workflows.
- Fixes bugs, performance issues, and problems that occur in live environments.
- Keeps track of the frontend app’s performance, uptime, and logs.
- Reviews code and keeps technical documents up to date.
- Works with the product owner, business experts, ICRC architects, UX team, external consultants, members of the agile delivery team, and open-source communities.
- Predicts user needs and finds solutions to problems.
- Resolves assigned issues and requests within the agreed time, following service and operational level agreements.
What we will look for in your profile
- A bachelor’s degree in IT engineering or an equivalent qualification.
ITIL and DevOps certifications are a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of frontend UI development experience, with at least 2 years of experience using Frappe UI (Vue) in production.
- Ability to understand and help shape functional requirements and design practical solutions.
- Strong experience with PWA, Service Workers, Background Sync, client-side data storage, conflict UI, and offline user experience.
- Knowledge of Docker/Podman and Linux.
- Familiarity with Git for version control.
- Good frontend testing practices.
- Experience with Right-To-Left (RTL) layouts and internationalization (i18n).
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
Fluency in French is an advantage.
- Contributions to the Frappe UI ecosystem are highly valued.
- Experience with Azure DevOps is a plus.

Additional information
- Location: Nairobi, Kenya
- Type of Contract: 1-year fixed-term contract (renewable based on budget and performance)
- Type of position: Applicants must have a legal right to live and work in Kenya at the time of application.
