Information Manager
Role Purpose
The Information Manager is responsible for leading the organization's information management, data quality, visualization, and knowledge management initiatives to support evidence-based decision-making and operational effectiveness. The role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of information management systems, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, accessible, and aligned with organizational standards.
Working closely with headquarters, country offices, technical teams, and external partners, the Information Manager establishes data governance standards, manages enterprise information platforms, develops visualization frameworks, and strengthens organizational capacity through training and technical support. The role also leads strategic information management projects, coordinates cross-functional initiatives, and serves as a focal point for data quality, reporting, and information-sharing across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Information Management and Data Governance
The Information Manager is responsible for ensuring that organizational data is managed in accordance with established standards and best practices.
Key responsibilities include:
Develop and implement information management standards, policies, and procedures.
Establish and maintain enterprise data quality and governance frameworks.
Monitor data accuracy, consistency, completeness, and reliability across organizational systems.
Develop quality assurance processes to identify and resolve data issues proactively.
Maintain reference datasets, metadata, and standardized data structures.
Promote best practices in information management across all operational locations.
Conduct regular reviews to improve data quality and reporting consistency.
2. Information Systems and Platform Management
The role oversees the administration and continuous improvement of organizational information platforms.
Responsibilities include:
Administer enterprise information management systems and online platforms.
Ensure consistent use of organizational information systems across all offices.
Monitor platform performance, user adoption, and system effectiveness.
Develop user guidelines, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation.
Coordinate user registration, access management, and platform support.
Manage feedback from users and recommend system improvements.
Support implementation of new digital tools and technologies.
3. Data Visualization and Business Intelligence
The Information Manager ensures that organizational information is presented in a clear and meaningful manner to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and maintain data visualization standards across the organization.
Design dashboards, reports, maps, and visual products that communicate key insights.
Build and maintain templates for reporting and visualization.
Support business units in interpreting and presenting data effectively.
Ensure consistency in reporting formats and visual communication standards.
Promote self-service reporting and data accessibility where appropriate.
Improve reporting processes through automation and standardization.
4. Data Automation and Systems Improvement
The role leads initiatives that improve efficiency through automation and technology.
Responsibilities include:
Design and automate ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows.
Develop automated reporting and dashboard solutions.
Improve data integration processes across multiple systems.
Streamline repetitive information management tasks using scripting and automation tools.
Support the development of scalable data management solutions.
Evaluate emerging technologies that improve organizational efficiency.
Recommend process improvements that enhance data reliability and accessibility.
5. GIS and Spatial Information Management
The Information Manager supports the effective use of geographic information systems (GIS) for operational planning and analysis.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and maintain GIS templates, geodatabases, and mapping standards.
Produce maps and spatial analysis products to support operational activities.
Ensure geographic data is accurate, standardized, and properly maintained.
Support country offices in implementing GIS best practices.
Maintain spatial datasets and mapping resources.
Provide technical support on GIS applications and tools.
6. Training and Capacity Building
The role strengthens organizational information management capabilities through training and technical support.
Responsibilities include:
Design and deliver training programs on information management tools and systems.
Conduct onboarding sessions for new staff.
Develop user manuals, guidance notes, and learning materials.
Provide ongoing technical support to country offices and internal teams.
Organize workshops, webinars, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Build staff capacity in data quality, reporting, visualization, and information management best practices.
7. Stakeholder Coordination and Support
The Information Manager serves as a central point of coordination between headquarters and field operations.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate communication between headquarters and country offices.
Respond to user inquiries and technical support requests.
Manage information management helpdesk activities.
Collaborate with technical, operational, and program teams.
Support organizational projects requiring information management expertise.
Maintain collaborative knowledge management platforms and document repositories.
Foster effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Leadership and Continuous Improvement
The Information Manager contributes to organizational leadership and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
Provide leadership and guidance to information management staff.
Supervise, mentor, and support team members where applicable.
Coordinate departmental projects and cross-functional initiatives.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance development activities.
Act on behalf of senior management during periods of absence when delegated.
Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the organization.
Academic Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Statistics, Data Science, or another related discipline from a recognized institution.
A Master's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, GIS, Business Analytics, or a related field will be an added advantage.
Professional certifications in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, GIS, Database Administration, or Cloud Technologies are desirable.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in information management, data management, business intelligence, or data visualization.
At least two (2) years of experience leading or supervising technical teams.
Experience administering enterprise information management platforms.
Practical experience using Power BI, DAX, Tableau, or similar business intelligence tools.
Strong knowledge of SQL and database management principles.
Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or R.
Experience working with GIS applications, including ArcGIS or QGIS.
Experience developing dashboards, automated reporting solutions, and ETL processes.
Experience delivering technical training and capacity-building programs.
Experience working with humanitarian organizations, NGOs, or international development agencies is an added advantage.
Knowledge of humanitarian operations or experience working in complex operational environments is desirable.
