Position Overview
The firm is looking for an experienced Legal Assistant – Practice Support to provide administrative and legal assistance across various practice groups at its Uniondale office. This position serves as a flexible support resource, helping maintain consistent coverage when team members are absent, workloads increase, or additional assistance is required.
The successful candidate should be organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of supporting several attorneys and practice areas while adjusting to changing priorities in a busy law firm environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal and administrative assistance to attorneys and paralegals across different practice groups according to workload and coverage requirements.
Prepare, format, proofread, edit, and update legal documents, correspondence, transmittal letters, and related materials.
Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client and matter files.
Support commercial and residential loan closing transactions by checking documentation for accuracy and completeness and coordinating with clients, lenders, title companies, and other involved parties.
Assist with litigation-related administrative duties, including preparing documents, handling filings, and maintaining case files.
Arrange meetings, appointments, calendars, and other scheduling requirements.
Communicate professionally with clients, opposing attorneys, financial institutions, title companies, and other external contacts.
Record attorney time and billing details and provide assistance with invoicing and other billing activities when necessary.
Handle scanning, copying, electronic filing, document organization, and other practice support functions.
Provide reception and front desk coverage when needed, including answering calls, directing inquiries, and welcoming visitors.
Assist with special projects and additional administrative duties according to firm requirements.
Qualifications
At least two years of experience as a legal assistant or in a comparable law firm support role.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience handling commercial and residential loan closings and litigation support is highly desirable.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Familiarity with legal document management and practice management software is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Excellent organization skills and careful attention to detail.
Ability to handle competing priorities and move efficiently between different attorneys, assignments, and areas of practice.
Capable of working independently while also contributing effectively within a team.
Demonstrated discretion, sound professional judgment, and a strong commitment to client service.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers an annual salary of $50,000 to $70,000, with the final offer determined by the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.
