What You Will Do

Provide legal guidance and support to the company on matters such as commercial transactions, contracts, regulatory compliance, conveyancing, and risk management.
Manage the company’s legal files and ensure all legal records and documents are properly organized, filed, and maintained.
Monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the Co-operative Societies Act, employment legislation, and occupational health and safety requirements.
Ensure the company fulfils its legal responsibilities and complies with all relevant regulatory obligations.
Advise management and the Board on legal and compliance matters.
Ensure Board resolutions are properly recorded and filed in accordance with the SIC bylaws.
Establish and maintain productive relationships with government agencies, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and keep the co-operative society informed of changes that may affect its operations.
Coordinate litigation matters with external legal counsel where required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B).
Must be an Advocate of the High Court with at least 2 years of experience and a valid practising certificate.
Strong knowledge of legal principles, particularly commercial law and regulatory requirements.
Experience in board secretarial and corporate governance matters is an added advantage.
Must be available to start work immediately.
Previous experience as an in-house legal counsel is an added advantage.
