Position Summary
The Legal and Regulatory Compliance Officer is responsible for providing legal guidance and regulatory compliance support across the organization's operations. The role focuses on protecting the company's legal interests, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations, managing legal and compliance risks, and maintaining accurate legal documentation and records. The successful candidate will also offer strategic legal advice to support sound business decision-making and corporate governance.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and guidance on matters affecting the organization's operations and strategic objectives.
Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, recommending corrective actions where necessary.
Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks that may impact the business.
Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret contracts, agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
Manage litigation matters by coordinating with external legal counsel and monitoring the progress of legal cases.
Advise management on employment, commercial, and corporate legal matters.
Maintain secure custody and proper management of legal records, contracts, licenses, and other statutory documents.
Support the implementation of corporate governance and compliance initiatives across the organization.
Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments and communicate their implications to relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
A Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate where applicable.
Professional Experience
Candidates should have:
A minimum of four years of relevant post-admission experience in a reputable legal practice or corporate legal environment.
Demonstrated experience in commercial litigation, with a strong understanding of commercial and employment law.
Practical exposure to dispute resolution, legal advisory services, contract management, and regulatory compliance.
