Medical Officer – Job Description
Job Overview
The Medical Officer will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients through clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and ongoing monitoring. The role involves working closely with patients, caregivers, consultants, and clinical teams to ensure coordinated and patient-focused care.
Key Responsibilities
Assess patients regularly by taking medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and requesting appropriate laboratory and radiology investigations in line with evidence-based practice and established clinical protocols.
Monitor patients with both acute and chronic conditions and evaluate their progress during follow-up.
Communicate with patients and caregivers to support accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and effective medical care.
Perform emergency medical and surgical procedures when required, including privileged procedures that may be critical to saving a patient's life.
Conduct wellness and screening examinations, assess health risks, identify illnesses at an early stage, and educate patients on disease prevention.
Consult relevant specialists and departments promptly when managing cases that require specialized medical attention.
Coordinate with clinic management and the main hospital to facilitate effective and timely patient referrals.
Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams to deliver patient-centered care, minimize errors and unnecessary waste, and promote efficient use of resources.
Participate actively in clinic quality improvement initiatives together with clinic management and the Quality and Patient Safety team.
Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or an equivalent qualification.
Successful completion of at least two years of postgraduate internship.
Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate.
