Position Summary
The Medical Officer is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive, and patient-centered medical care across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services. Reporting to the Head of the Clinical Department, the successful candidate will assess patients, establish diagnoses, develop treatment plans, perform appropriate clinical procedures, respond to medical emergencies, and maintain accurate medical records. The role plays a key part in promoting quality healthcare, patient safety, and compliance with established clinical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive medical assessments and formulate accurate diagnoses for patients in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency units.
Develop and implement appropriate treatment and follow-up plans based on clinical findings and evidence-based practice.
Perform minor medical and surgical procedures within the scope of practice.
Provide emergency care, including patient stabilization, resuscitation, and coordination of referrals where necessary.
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient records using the hospital's information management system.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient care.
Adhere to hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection prevention measures, and regulatory standards.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and support patient safety programmes.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should possess:
A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS) or an equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Current registration and a valid practicing license issued by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
One to three years of post-internship clinical experience, preferably in a busy hospital environment.
Valid certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS). Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) will be considered an added advantage.
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage emergency cases effectively.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient care skills.
Proficiency in using Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS) or similar electronic medical record systems.
