Network Manager – Africa
Role Purpose
The Network Manager – Africa is responsible for strengthening and expanding the Grassroots Justice Network across the African region by leading learning, collaboration, advocacy, and member engagement initiatives. The role designs and delivers regional learning programmes, strengthens partnerships with grassroots justice organizations, facilitates knowledge exchange, and promotes legal empowerment across Anglophone and Francophone Africa.
Working closely with network members, regional partners, and global teams, the Network Manager develops and implements the Grassroots Justice Network Academy's regional learning strategy, supports advocacy initiatives, builds strategic partnerships with regional institutions, and contributes to organizational strategy and resource mobilization. The role serves as a key connector between grassroots justice practitioners, ensuring that learning, collaboration, and collective action advance legal empowerment and access to justice throughout the continent.
Key Responsibilities
1. Learning Programme Design and Implementation
The Network Manager leads the development and delivery of regional learning initiatives that strengthen legal empowerment across Africa.
Key responsibilities include:
Design and implement the Grassroots Justice Network Academy learning strategy for Africa.
Develop regional learning programmes, courses, workshops, webinars, and peer-learning initiatives.
Coordinate global and cross-regional learning opportunities involving Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Collaborate with network members to co-create learning content and training materials.
Coordinate facilitators, trainers, faculty members, and guest speakers during programme implementation.
Oversee the delivery of virtual, hybrid, and self-paced learning programmes.
Monitor learning outcomes and recommend continuous improvements to programme effectiveness.
2. Knowledge Management and Learning Resources
The role supports the creation and dissemination of knowledge that strengthens grassroots justice practice.
Responsibilities include:
Develop learning briefs, case studies, toolkits, facilitation guides, and other knowledge products.
Document lessons learned and best practices from regional learning activities.
Support knowledge-sharing initiatives across regional and global networks.
Maintain learning resources and programme documentation.
Contribute to global knowledge synthesis and dissemination efforts.
Promote the exchange of experiences and innovative legal empowerment approaches.
Ensure learning materials are relevant, accessible, and responsive to member needs.
3. Membership Engagement and Community Building
The Network Manager strengthens relationships with members and promotes active participation across the network.
Responsibilities include:
Expand and deepen engagement of Africa-based network members.
Coordinate regular meetings with regional core groups and member organizations.
Recruit new members from diverse sectors and underrepresented communities.
Promote participation in Academy learning programmes and community activities.
Build relationships with environmental, gender, youth, paralegal, and community-based organizations.
Provide technical support and guidance to network members.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive community of practice.
4. Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships
The role supports regional advocacy initiatives and builds partnerships that advance legal empowerment.
Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement regional advocacy strategies.
Build and strengthen partnerships with regional institutions and justice organizations.
Support engagement with bodies such as the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR), ECOWAS, and other regional institutions.
Coordinate stakeholder consultations and advocacy campaigns.
Promote participation of African members in global advocacy initiatives.
Strengthen alliances with civil society organizations, coalitions, and development partners.
Represent the organization at conferences, forums, and stakeholder meetings.
5. Programme Coordination and Regional Collaboration
The Network Manager coordinates regional activities and supports effective programme implementation.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate regional programme implementation and operational activities.
Work closely with country teams and global colleagues to ensure programme alignment.
Support cross-regional collaboration between Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Monitor programme implementation against work plans and objectives.
Coordinate meetings, workshops, and regional events.
Track action points and support timely completion of programme activities.
Prepare programme updates and management reports.
6. Strategic Planning and Organizational Development
The role contributes to the long-term growth and sustainability of the regional network.
Responsibilities include:
Contribute to organizational strategic planning and programme development.
Support resource mobilization and fundraising initiatives for regional programmes.
Identify opportunities to strengthen network impact and regional partnerships.
Participate in organizational planning meetings and cross-functional initiatives.
Support development of proposals for donor funding and strategic partnerships.
Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and organizational learning.
Recommend improvements that enhance programme effectiveness and member engagement.
Academic Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Law, International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Public Policy, Human Rights, Social Sciences, or another related discipline from a recognized institution.
A Master's Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
Professional training in Programme Management, Adult Learning, Community Development, Facilitation, Advocacy, or Leadership will be an added advantage.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in legal empowerment, grassroots justice, human rights, community development, or social justice programmes.
Demonstrated experience designing, managing, or implementing legal empowerment initiatives.
Experience developing and facilitating adult learning programmes, workshops, and peer-learning initiatives.
Experience working with civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and grassroots movements across multiple African countries.
Proven experience coordinating regional or international partnerships and collaborative programmes.
Experience supporting advocacy initiatives and stakeholder engagement at regional or international levels.
Experience developing knowledge products, learning resources, facilitation guides, or toolkits.
Professional working proficiency in French will be an added advantage.
Experience engaging with regional institutions such as ACHPR, ECOWAS, or similar organizations will be an added advantage.
