Job Purpose

The Charge Nurse – Theatre is responsible for coordinating operating room activities to ensure surgical patients receive safe, timely, and high-quality care. The role provides clinical and operational leadership in overseeing the delivery of compassionate, efficient, and evidence-based nursing care throughout the perioperative process, including pre-operative preparation, anaesthesia, surgery, and post-operative recovery.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Registered Nurse qualification (KRN, KRM, KRCHN, Post-RN Degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing).

• Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing (KRPON) or an equivalent specialized qualification, together with relevant professional certifications.

• Valid and current practicing license issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

• At least five years of progressive experience in theatre nursing, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.

• Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is required.

• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.

• Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is required.

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification will be an added advantage.

• Demonstrated leadership, team management, and decision-making skills.

• Mentorship or coaching training is desirable.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

Additional Training

• Leadership and supervisory training.

• Counselling or psychosocial support training will be an added advantage.
