About this role
Job Purpose
Our client in the healthcare sector is looking to recruit a Theatre Nurse who will play a key role in delivering safe and effective perioperative nursing care. The successful candidate will work alongside surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to support surgical procedures, promote positive patient outcomes, and maintain high standards of clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare operating theatres before surgical procedures by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile, functional, and readily available.
Provide intraoperative support to surgeons and anaesthetists by anticipating procedural needs, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile operating field.
Observe and record patients' vital signs throughout the perioperative period, reporting any abnormalities promptly.
Deliver comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative nursing care, including patient preparation, education, counselling, and recovery support.
Perform scrub, circulating, and recovery nursing duties across a variety of surgical disciplines.
Maintain strict infection prevention measures by consistently applying aseptic techniques and theatre safety protocols.
Participate in departmental meetings, continuous professional development activities, quality improvement programmes, and clinical education sessions.
Educate patients and their families on prescribed treatments, medication management, post-operative care, and preventive health practices.
Contribute to patient assessments, care planning, treatment implementation, monitoring, and follow-up to support continuity of care.
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of surgical procedures, nursing interventions, and patient progress.
Ensure compliance with all infection prevention, patient safety, and clinical governance standards within the operating theatre.
Handle laboratory specimens in accordance with established procedures, ensuring proper labelling, documentation, and safe transfer for analysis.
Assist with emergency surgical procedures whenever required, ensuring prompt and effective nursing support.
Qualifications
Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN).
Higher Diploma in Peri-operative Nursing.
Valid practicing licence issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Minimum of one to two years of relevant clinical experience in a theatre or perioperative nursing environment.
