Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine procedures.

• Safely administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with established oncology protocols.

• Monitor patients for treatment-related side effects and promptly communicate any adverse reactions to the oncology team.

• Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medication adherence, symptom management and appropriate home care.

• Work closely with oncologists, physicists, radiation therapists (RTTs), pharmacists and other multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care.

• Maintain strict infection prevention and control practices, particularly when caring for immunocompromised patients.

• Accurately record nursing interventions, observations and patient progress in patient files and the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).

• Offer emotional support to patients and their families to help them cope with treatment and improve their quality of life.

• Participate in oncology research, continuous professional development and quality improvement activities.

• Perform any other duties assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN), Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a recognized institution.

• Higher Diploma in Oncology Nursing or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

• At least 2 years of experience working in a busy oncology unit or comprehensive cancer centre.

• Training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is an added advantage.

• Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

• Valid practising licence as an Oncology Nurse issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

• Proficiency in computer applications.
