1. Job Objective
The Pharmaceutical Technologist plays an important role in supporting the delivery of safe and effective healthcare services. The main purpose of this position is to prepare, dispense, and manage medicines while ensuring that all pharmacy activities comply with professional standards, legal requirements, and company policies. The successful candidate will work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to provide quality pharmaceutical services, maintain accurate records, manage medicine inventory, and promote patient safety. The position requires a high level of accuracy, professionalism, confidentiality, and commitment to excellent customer service.
2. Key Responsibilities
The Pharmaceutical Technologist will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
2.1 Prescription Management
Receive written prescriptions and refill requests from patients and healthcare providers.
Check every prescription to ensure all information is complete, accurate, and valid.
Confirm that prescriptions meet legal and professional requirements before dispensing medication.
Refer unclear or incomplete prescriptions to the supervising pharmacist for clarification.
Maintain proper documentation for all processed prescriptions.
2.2 Medication Preparation and Dispensing
Prepare medicines according to approved prescriptions and pharmacy procedures.
Measure, mix, package, and label medications accurately.
Dispense medicines and pharmaceutical supplies to patients, hospital departments, and nursing stations.
Ensure the correct medicine, dosage, quantity, and instructions are provided to every patient.
Follow all safety procedures during the preparation and dispensing of medications.
2.3 Patient Support and Customer Service
Welcome patients in a friendly and professional manner.
Respond to basic questions about pharmacy services and healthcare products.
Help patients locate pharmacy products when required.
Refer patients to the pharmacist whenever detailed medication advice is needed.
Answer telephone calls politely and respond to customer inquiries promptly.
2.4 Patient Records Management
Create and maintain accurate patient medication profiles.
Record all medicines dispensed to patients.
File completed prescriptions correctly for future reference.
Update patient information in the pharmacy computer system.
Protect patient confidentiality by handling records securely.
2.5 Pharmacy Inventory Management
Monitor stock levels regularly to ensure adequate supplies are available.
Order medicines and pharmacy supplies when stock levels become low.
Receive deliveries and confirm that quantities match supplier invoices.
Label and store pharmaceutical products correctly.
Remove expired, damaged, or recalled medicines from stock.
Report shortages and supply issues to supervisors immediately.
Keep inventory records accurate and up to date.
2.6 Storage and Safety
Store medicines under the correct environmental conditions.
Ensure refrigerated medicines are maintained at the required temperatures.
Secure controlled medicines according to legal requirements.
Keep pharmacy storage areas clean, organized, and safe.
Prevent contamination, loss, or damage to pharmaceutical products.
2.7 Equipment and Workplace Maintenance
Clean pharmacy equipment regularly.
Sterilize glassware and reusable equipment using approved procedures.
Maintain clean and organized workstations.
Dispose of pharmaceutical waste safely and responsibly.
Report faulty equipment for repair or replacement.
2.8 Administrative and Financial Duties
Calculate medication charges accurately.
Enter dispensing and billing information into the pharmacy computer system.
Process pharmacy transactions correctly.
Price pharmacy products before displaying them for sale.
Prepare reports and other pharmacy documents when requested.
2.9 Communication and Teamwork
Work closely with pharmacists, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Share important information with supervisors and colleagues.
Respond to telephone calls, emails, and written communication professionally.
Support teamwork by maintaining positive working relationships.
Participate in meetings and contribute to continuous improvement within the pharmacy.
2.10 Legal Compliance and Professional Ethics
Follow all pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional standards.
Comply with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board requirements.
Observe company policies and standard operating procedures.
Use professional judgment when performing pharmacy duties.
Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

3. Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
Valid enrolment or registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Minimum of two (2) years of working experience in a pharmacy, hospital, or healthcare facility.
Good understanding of pharmaceutical practices and healthcare regulations.
Basic computer skills for pharmacy record management and inventory control.
