Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Agriculture, Dairy Technology, Food Science, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.

• A professional qualification in procurement or supply chain management is an added advantage.

• 7–10 years of relevant experience in milk procurement, dairy supply chains, agricultural sourcing, or FMCG procurement.

• At least 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial position.

• Practical experience handling the procurement of approximately 200,000–250,000 litres of raw milk per day.

• Proven experience working with dairy farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, milk collection centres, transport providers, and suppliers.

• Strong knowledge of supplier contracts, milk quality management, collection operations, and dairy procurement processes.

• Understanding of milk pricing, supply planning, collection logistics, cost control, reconciliations, and supplier performance management.

• Experience within the Kenyan dairy industry is strongly preferred.

• Strong commercial, negotiation, analytical, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

• Good stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.

• Experience using SAP or other ERP systems, data analysis tools, and procurement reporting systems is an advantage.

• High level of integrity and willingness to work extensively in field procurement operations with farmers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop procurement strategies and supply plans that ensure sufficient milk availability based on production needs, seasonal changes, and market requirements.

• Build and manage relationships with farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, and other milk suppliers.

• Oversee supplier onboarding, performance monitoring, contract management, retention, and commercial negotiations.

• Coordinate the operations of milk collection centres, collection routes, transportation, weighing, cooling, and daily reconciliations.

• Work with Quality teams to ensure all raw milk meets required standards through testing, supplier monitoring, rejection procedures, and corrective measures.

• Manage milk purchase prices, supplier incentives, procurement budgets, margins, and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining dependable supply.

• Track milk volumes, quality results, pricing, rejected quantities, collection activities, transport costs, and supplier performance.

• Use SAP, ERP systems, and management reports to monitor procurement activities and support decision-making.

• Identify and address risks relating to supply interruptions, milk quality, costs, fraud, leakage, and reconciliation discrepancies.

• Collaborate with Production, Quality, Finance, Logistics, and Agriculture or Extension teams to strengthen supply planning, farmer productivity, milk quality, and procurement efficiency.

• Lead, supervise, and develop the milk procurement team while maintaining clear performance standards and accountability.

• Ensure procurement activities comply with established procedures and maintain productive relationships with suppliers and farmers.
