Responsibilities
Create, film, and edit high-quality videos for Reuters' global TV and online platforms.
Cover urgent news and planned stories in Kenya and East Africa, often at short notice.
Plan news coverage, do research, find interviewees, and develop compelling visual stories.
Work with reporters, photographers, editors, and planning teams to make full multimedia stories.
Write accurate scripts, shot lists, and metadata under tight deadlines.
Provide live coverage and update editors during big news events.
Use professional broadcast cameras, drones, gimbals, GoPros, and other mobile news tools.
Edit videos to meet Reuters' broadcast standards using standard editing software.
Make videos that work across TV, digital, and social media.
Keep high editorial, legal, and safety standards while working in the field.
Help find original stories that connect with global audiences.
Qualifications
Have a lot of experience as both a producer and camera operator in a professional newsroom.
Show excellent skills in shooting, producing, and editing videos.
Have strong editorial judgment and the ability to make good decisions under pressure.
Be organized and able to handle multiple tasks at once.
Have experience covering breaking news, politics, business, conflict, humanitarian issues, and features.
Be good at interviewing and building relationships with various sources.
Understand digital storytelling and audience-centered journalism.
Be skilled in using professional cameras, live transmission systems, editing software, and mobile journalism tools.
Experience with drones is a plus, along with necessary certifications.
Be able to take basic still photos for use in stories.
Speak and write English well, and be fluent in at least one local language.
Be ready to travel a lot, including to difficult or dangerous places.
